The EPA part is what I'm addressing by my "historically ineffective" line. Clearly the EPA has been ineffective in its ability to regulate. But the "someone will build it anyway" kind of fatalistic reasoning is largely how we've continued to allow this impotent regulation to continue.

Exactly! it'd be nice if his thread had called for any sort of regulation or prosecution, but its conclusion is that historically all of those attempts have been ineffective. The thread's original conclusion came to "it's impossible to say whether the modern equivalent of my own analogy is good or bad". He could have spent four paragraphs describing how horrible Carnegie was, but the analogy still doesn't track meaningfully, sorry.

The original thread only mentions Carnegie's violence against his workers in passing, as if it's a regrettable little mistake in service of furthering society. The lesson from that historical example is that we ought not repeat it, not "well, I guess the AI industry isn't THAT bad at least!".

I've been fuckin' around with the ol' tablet again. Well, I always am doing that, but besides illustration I've been using the mirror tool to make psychedelic kinda stuff. Because it feels *awesome* to do. And then sometimes I sneak a lil Neko Arc in there because that also feels awesome to do.

It's kinda like those shitty hippie posters you could buy at Spencer's Gifts and then affix it directly to your wall, unframed, with scotch tape. Also if you zoom in you'll get jumpscared.
