actually, in her aoutobiography (which is a really good book, btw) she says that once she moved out of academia she realized that industries had very well understood to potential of mRNA therapeutics and were investing lots of money. I guess that's why we got lucky with the Covid vaccine

Yeah, she was never tenure track. She was first Research Assistant Professor, then demoted to senior postdoc, then after many years eventually forced to leave Penn. That's how she ended up at BioNTech... and ended up saving our a** and that of those who had demoted and fired her

I don't know if the chance that AI will kill us by 2030 is 10% or 0.0001%, or more or less. But I think there is a pretty good chance (anywhere more than 50%) that soon a book by the whistleblower will be on the market and will make a lot of money.

This evening had to call 911 with chest pain, dizziness, nausea, shortness of breath. When the ambulance came, all my 4 years old was concerned about was: are you going to give my mommy a shot? 😅 So lucky to have my little patient advocate take care of me 😍

I'be been a lab PI in the US for 8 years and a study section standing member for the last year + ad hoc more times I can count in the previous 6 years. Yet I know (mostly male) colleagues who managed to get through tenure and almost full without serving a single day on a SS. I find it so sad.

Did you know his son Dino had Duchenne muscular dystrophy? He died super young, I wonder sometimes just how much he could have accomplished if he had lived longer, perhaps Ferrari would have been even more awesome, I believe he was a very talented engineer from a very young age.
