Pablo Picasso, constellation drawings, 1924 Pen and ink A series of sketches drawn on 16 notebook pages. Picasso took inspiration from sky charts and aimed at an artistic exploration of the limit between abstraction and figuration. Further descriptions in the alt texts 👇
Black dots are connected by thin lines to produce different kinds of figures, some geometrically controlled and others more leaning toward a free composition.Biographers note that Picasso was deeply inspired by the clear, brilliant night skies of southern France. He essentially mapped out his own abstract zodiacs, turning traditional figure drawing entirely on its head.Key Characteristics & Legacy

Pure Abstraction:
This series represents one of Picasso's most radical departures from representation, translating objects, musical instruments, and figures into entirely geometric "wireframes".The "The Unknown Masterpiece" Connection:
In 1931, the famous art dealer Ambroise Vollard used woodcuts of these 1924 drawings to illustrate a special edition of Honoré de Balzac’s short story, Le Chef-d'œuvre inconnu (The Unknown Masterpiece). The story revolves around a painter who spends years working on a masterpiece, only for it to look like a chaotic, unrecognizable mass of lines to others.

Precursor to Sculpture: These sketches directly paved the way for Picasso’s later three-dimensional works. His famous rod-and-ball wire sculptures from the late 1920s are essentially these constellation drawings brought to life in space.

Latest mandala. Wanted to do a Celtic spiral and it went full gothic church window. Two angles otherwise metallic inks don't show up well. #art #mandala #illustration
A mandala in the form of a church window, with Celtic-like forms arranged in a triple spiral, enclosed with a silver ink with rounded and gold innardsSame as the last image, but from a different angle

I got to know Shane not by his music but semi-daily interactions, and learned later he's a pillar of the local industrial music scene. SIN at Kremwerk were where I got to see him rock a club. Genuinely good dude.

mandala for August - "the aion is a child at play" #art #watercolor #prismacolor
A colored mandala rotating around a central open space, in which is a stylized letter for alpha, the Greek "A". There are twelve points around the mandala, which are joined along shared axes, creating the illusion of two cubes nested within each other, but slightly rotated.

what do you get when you combine Norse mythology, the story of Pinocchio, Mad Max, and Aliens (the second film) as a meditation on how human civilizations started and fell in ancient Mesopotamia, in the form of a genre scifi novel Something like that

Part of my ongoing obsession with everything Greek, classical, and from antiquity #charcoal #drawing
A Greek column drawn in charcoal and conte. It's surrounded by three alchemical and zodiacal symbols: the one for Jupiter sits above the column, while Uranus is left of the midsection and Neptune is to the right. Gold streaks suggesting filled cracks permeate the column's midsection.

It's like we have to become Mentat-Vulcans just to take to heart this simple idea: that this one throwaway switch you thought up, but keep stating, is like a finger in the clay on the potters wheel. As long as you keep it there, it'll dig in like a tooth on a lathe.

A garage transformed into an art studio with a rug, drop cloth mat, coffee table, and a 8' wooden frame and easel, on which is stretched a painted canvasA close up of the painting in the prior photo. It shows warm colors indicating stone, concrete forms, and with dark cracks and geometric sketches overlaid. It is abstract.
