Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 5hThe first time I got suspended from Bluesky, I thought: they must have teething problems; it's a glitch. The second time, I thought, "I've broken some rule, but they don't tell me what it was, so let it go". But now suspension is happening twice a month, and I am REALLY FUCKING ANGRY. 😡 010
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 7hThis time it was for 2 weeks. They never tell me how long the suspension will last, and they never give a reason. 110
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 7hNow that I get suspended from Bluesky several times each month -- for which no reason has been given -- I am returning to other social media that I have neglected recently, including Twitter. It's a shame that Bluesky has become such a cesspit that even Twitter looks good in comparison. 121
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 10hMore or less. Sometimes the razor is stated as, "entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem". Meaning, keep it simple. 000
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 11hI have sent in a formal complaint about the suspensions of my account. In which I point out that no reason for suspension has been given and that I have not received any emails concerning suspension, despite my correct email address being visible in my account settings and marked as "verified". 000
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 11/10/2026It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents, except at occasional intervals when it was checked by a violent gust of wind, which swept up the streets... rattling along the house-tops and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness. Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 11/10/2026The conduct of many of the moderators in this shithole of a forum needs to be condemned. They are not "moderating" discussions. Their actions are arbitrary and malicious. @moderation.bsky.app 100
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 11/10/2026My email address appears in my account settings as verified, but I never receive any emails from Bluesky. I assume that the reason they do not provide an explanation for each suspension is that there is no reason and no justification. The moderators abuse their power. 100
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Can you see anything in this message that gave Bluesky a reason to suspend me for two weeks? Neither can I. They have the power to suspend accounts, and they abuse that power. 000
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 11/10/2026You have suspended me several times, this time for the last two weeks. You say that the reason for a suspension will be given in an email. You have my correct email address, but I have never received an email. You are cheats and liars. You suspend people whom you dislike and give no reason. 000
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 11/10/2026I would like to have an open and frank discussion with the people who run Bluesky. I want to tell them EXACTLY what I think of them and their conduct. They need to be told. @moderation.bsky.app 100
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 11/10/2026When I joined Bluesky, I gave them my email address, and it appears correctly in my account information. Each time they suspend me, the liars say that the reason will be given in an email. I have never received an email. They abuse their power. Cheats and liars. @moderation.bsky.app 100
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 11/10/2026I guess that I was suspended because I broke some unwritten rule. Probably it is because I criticized Putin because these people are Kremlin stooges. But they never tell me why I have been suspended; they just do it. This is an abuse of power. @safety.bsky.app @moderation.bsky.app 110
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Those nice people at Bluesky locked me out of this account again, this time for two weeks. I have absolutely no idea why they did this. Each time there is a message saying that an email will give me the reason for the suspension. But this is a lie, because I never received any email at any time. 130
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I just went to the bins at the other side of the house with a bag full of paper, old textbooks and cardboard, to find that the bin collection happened today. It's been Tuesday for most bins for as long as I can remember. I am completely disoriented. In other news, I am turning into Mr. Meldrew. 100

Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Computers constantly give you new problems to solve. I had moved my backup jobs to tailnet, keeping it all private and away from the riff-raff on the public internet. The setup worked fine for a week, and then today one backup failed. It took me a few hours to identify the cause as a stuck daemon. 🙃 110
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Tell me about it. In our block we have non-standard numbering. So packages get delivered to the wrong floors, all the time. 110

Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Jim Rat is the kind of bigoted, racist, corrupt businessman who is idolized by the assholes at the BBC. Nothing new. 000
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I sort my sweaters (pullovers) into categories including: 1. light thin sweaters, mostly of cashmere 2. comfy pullovers, mostly of wool mix 3. chunky cabled woollen sweaters 4. ski vacation sweaters 5. rollneck sweaters suitable for wearing on a trawler 6. big sweaters, mostly of wool one of alpaca 120
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 19/09/2026It will soon be time for the annual sorting of the sweaters (pullovers). After I moved to darkest Scandinavia, all my friends and relatives gave me sweaters as Christmas presents, so now my closet is full of them. That's not counting the ones that I have bought to fill the gaps in my collection. 😉 150

Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 17/09/2026My take on "gods" (Æsir, Vanir) and "giants" (jötnar, jǫtunn) is that they're basically the same. In my unqualified opinion, the real difference is that only the "gods" live in Asgard (Ásgarðr). Which contains many dwellings such as Valhöll, Vingólf, Iðavöllr, Hlidskjálf and perhaps even Fólkvangr. 000
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I agree with your (frequently asserted) opinion that translating “jǫtunn" as "giants" is misleading. Although some of the primeval giants must have been big if this world was made out of them; notably Ymir, ancestor of all jötnar. 110
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 17/09/2026UPS arrived with a package for me, sent from those good people at Yubico in Stockholm Two more YubiKeys. So in addition to the old ones with obsolete firmware, now I have 4 keys (2 USB-A and 2 USB-C) with the very latest firmware (version 5.8). To be registered in Dropbox, AWS, Microsoft, Google ... 000
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 17/09/2026One noticeable difference is that, instead of getting a little 2-pin charger for the electric shaver, this new model has a cable with USB-A. So it is now charging from the fast-charging box that sits on my desk. 🤓 000
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 17/09/2026The Philips shavers, which I use to keep my beard in order, last me 5-6 years. The old shaver is a bit worn, so I decided to get a new one when I see them on special offer. They need their little blades replacing every 2 years, and I have replaced them 3 times in my old shaver. 100
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Here in Scandinavia, the hardware store chain Clas Ohlson is a big toyshop for men. Today they opened a new shop just down the road from me, and in the opening day sale everything was 30% reduced. I was restrained. New electric shaver, tools, much duct tape. 110
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 17/09/2026The Amazon chatbot kept telling me to use a callback link that only works in the USA and territories. Telling it repeatedly that I am in Europe did not seem to get through to it. In the end it gave me an account-recovery email to try, which was not relevant because I did not need account recovery. 🙃 000
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I did have a second Amazon account. I decided that I did not need the second account so last year I deleted it. It looks like the deleted account is holding on to the mobile number. Other than getting a new telephone number, there seems to be no way out of this, since Amazon do not listen to me. 110
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I don't know anything about AI but if you want to experience Artificial Stupidity, try Amazon support. I just wasted half an hour with their idiot chatbot. The issue is that I cannot add my mobile phone number to my Amazon (shop) account because they way it is associated with another account. 😠 120
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I am awaiting delivery of 2 more YubiKeys. My older ones have obsolete firmware. The newest ones, of which I bought 2 last month, are on firmware 5.8.0. Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Passkeys are the thing these days. You can put them on your mobile phone and use an authenticator app. Or you can buy some YubiKeys (pricey now at €70 each) and put your passkeys on them. If you are brave enough, go passwordless and just use passkeys, where possible. 120
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I have three password managers. 😇 Mostly I use 1Password with its extensions for most browsers, enabling autofill of passwords and credit card details. As an offline password manager I use a Keepass, on Linux specifically it is KeepassXC. Recently I started using Proton Pass essentially as a backup. 120
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 16/09/2026My guidelines for passwords are now these. No reuse. Make passwords that easily can be typed in (such as horse-staple-vanilla-2026) for those that need to be typed in. Others mostly will be copied from a password manager, so they can be long and complex. Change at least the critcal ones regularly. 120
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 16/09/2026In other news, this week I had a big cleanup of my passwords, on Linux. Got rid of many duplicates and entries for websites and services that I stopped using many years ago. Down from 175 to 135 passwords, which is starting to be manageable. I replaced all of the weak passwords with stronger ones. 😇 110
Derrick Everett @d3rrick.bsky.social · 16/09/2026My conclusion from what I have seen so far is that tailscale is the best thing since sliced bread. Think of it as a meshed VPN in which each node can talk securely to each of the other nodes. And with Magic DNS using Control D, it takes care of my DNS needs. As you all know, a stable DNS is vital. 131
