In recent times the only two Chinese films that really wowed me are 欢迎来龙餐馆 and 好东西。alr talked abt the former so. The latter is a heartfelt film abt a single mother and it’s extremely grounded to modern reality and is progressive without hamfisting the messages.. both good go watch watch watch

Watched 欢迎来龙餐馆 (once upon a time in the Middle East) and it kind of blew me away.. don’t let the poster deceive u it’s set during the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. Very brutal. I can’t believe that china, one of The Cultural Insensitivity countries of all time, could film such a topic..
