J: Jaekelopterus #extinct #sciart this print is kind of a flawed one! the speckles all over the background aren't there on purpose: I accidentally splashed alcohol over the plate before it went in the bath and the aquatint dissolved in those areas, leaving them white instead of black.

current project: an A-Z of extinct animals, in the form of tiny etchings! this is what ive been working on during+since my Feb residency; i plan to drop all 26 prints at the Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair (April 9-12). super fun and challenging project—can't wait to share the final series! #sciart

AMNH 5060: The Flood is a large woodcut I made in 2022-3, depicting the famous Edmontosaurus "dinomummy" at @natural-history.bsky.social. The same drought which killed the animal naturally mummified its body, and so even after millions of years its scaly skin still clings to its bones. #paleoart

feels like this print took so long to make! many trials over the course of the process (related and unrelated to the print itself) and im glad to have an edition of it finally complete in my hands. and not least because i think it is a very good print

a detailed image of the print, showing the delicate lines inked in black which make up the auk in contrast to the abstract bubbles, drips, and brushstrokes in the soap ground, inked in green which changes from olive-green to blue-green below the auk's head.

an uncropped photo of the print pinned to a wall. the creamy-white paper is about a third larger than the plate, leaving margins a few inches wide on all sides of the image area. from a distance, the vertically oriented composition of the waves stands out against the horizontal white space of the auk's upturned belly, and the border between the different shades of green recedes in importance.
