Went to the Mamluk Carpet (c.1250-1517) exhibit at MITI (antique carpet museum, Brescia, Italy) & I loved it! So much detail about how carpets were integral to daily life. I’m still thinking about it! Happy to answer your questions in the comments! #textilesky #carpets #identity #museumsky

A girl. Three passports. Some grannies. A monsoon or two. And a well-traveled batik sarong. #booksky #newfiction #thirdculturekid #batik #bluefeetmonsoon

Just because I appreciate it doesn’t mean I need to own it. Not every flower needs to be picked. With that in mind, here’s another 17th century painting of a carpet from my visit to the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin. Enjoy! 🤗 Happy #stpatricksday 💙#museumtok #carpets #textiles #TCK #nogreed

When they know you by your carpets…this 17th century, unnamed painter painted carpets that look so plush he’s known as the carpet guy… But why? What was his connection to carpets? No one knows. (see it at the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin) #carpets #textiles #museums

Turkman woman wearing abrbandi (ikat) robe (1911) — “Wait, a colour photo in 1911?” you ask… Yes! Photographer Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944) invented a colour system that he used to take photos like this across Central Asia & Russia. #ikat #textile #centralasia

In light of our current mess, let’s celebrate trailblazing women in archaeology: Margaret Murray, Gertrude Caton-Thompson, and Dame Kathleen Kenyon. Their groundbreaking work proves that diversity in scholarship strengthens our understanding of ancient civilizations. #DEI #Archaeology #WomenInSTEM

A 3,500-year-old Hittite linen fabric—tiny but mighty—is finally on display! Though small, this rare textile survived millennia, offering a glimpse into ancient craftsmanship. Who knew the oldest "fast fashion" would last this long? 🏺🧵 #Hittite #AncientTextiles #Archaeology #History

Saying goodbye to our beautiful ikat exhibition and gearing up for the museum’s centennial anniversary. If you are in DC during 2025 please be sure to stop at the museum to see the best of our collection (including my exhibition)!

This Hmong woman in a tiny village in north Vietnam is working a foot-operated spinning machine to weave hemp fibers into multiple spools of yarn. The Hmong make their clothes from hemp and traditionally dye their hemp textiles using natural indigo, resulting in deep blue hues.

"The image of the painter and illuminator of this work. Hugh the painter" Hugh, the 11th century artist of Bodleian Library MS. Bodl. 717, goes meta and paints himself at work on the manuscript itself.
A zoom in on a manuscript page. On the left some text is visible and on the right, in a geometric and floral frame there is a monk at a writing desk. The tones are green and red with a blue robe of the monk.
