In the middle of cooking, I discovered I hadn't bought plain yogurt, so I was forced to fall back on sour cream, parmesan and heavy cream to make the sauce for dinner. And, well, the normal one is sufficiently tasty, but good lord is this one better.

What is the movie that came out before you were born that you've watched the most times? Singing in the Rain is close. Wizard of Oz is probably in there somewhere, but Mary Poppins is one of my comfort movies, and I started early.

Spouse had maps. Detailed maps of the local area, with supplemental ones for new destinations, and maps of US regional areas all kept nearly in the glove box. If one were an organized, orderly human, this was the way. AAA, rest stops and gas stations were all places to acquire maps.

I'm Southern, and so it seems weird that my first thought was "who has time for that?" Like, you nod or maybe say a quick thanks, and then MOVE ON. But I suppose that's part of the "that's just a thing you do" bit? It's not special? Cultures are fascinating.

One of my greatest joys is the yearly playlist of new-to-me music that my kid makes for me. I don't want personalized music to disassociate to; I want new stuff that's poking my brain into new shapes. I'd feel sorry for these folks is they weren't burning the world down

The frustrating part is that I would love an assistant who reminded me to pick up dry cleaning or took a memo or whatever AND GOOGLE HAD THIS! I could tell my phone to remind me to call my mom when I got home, or at noon or whatever and it WORKED. And then they shifted to AI and it's all crap.

We mostly threaded the educational needle, but we're white and it was still harrowing. And, despite my extremely firmly held belief that private schools should be abolished, our kid spent the majority of their educational time in a private school. It's such an awful system.
