Goddd human anatomy is so cool. It’s so interesting like. I feel like you get a lot of assumptions about how things sit in the body based on how models look, or that you are just a loose bag of gut, but it’s neither fixed and exact nor entirely chaotic. My own understanding of it is still changing.

... I can check my assumptions actually. I keep thinking like, I have no way of being entirely sure what's going on in someone's abdomen but there's public medical archives with internal scans of abdominal pathology that I could examine for a better sense of how organs are offset, comparatively.

I think the sketches, aside from being good practice, just help me to simplify things n understand what I’m looking at better - if it’s just the shape of the form as lines and not like. dozens of different pictures at different angles, light conditions and qualities that I’m comparing

I think I did start working on something like this a few months back but I got overwhelmed by just how much visual information there is to process and how different people can look n it kinda demoralised me bc I felt like maybe I’m talking out of my ass. but I have to take it in stride more.

of course there's nothing wrong with unrealistic fantasies, but I suppose the novelty of it can wear thin when the sense of breaking from reality becomes formulaic or, when someone doesn't seem to realise when it happens at all, and has no desire to grapple with their understanding of the world.

you can't know exactly what is going on inside someone's belly most of the time, and even the layout of organs can be different - eg. with superfluous bowel, situs inversus, colectomy, etc. - I have my own limits, but, I do want to make sure my understanding is largely consistent with observations

I started thinking about how I draw bellies again bc someone asked how I figure out the placement for internals - it's not strictly as complicated as you'd expect, if you know where the navel, hips and ribcage are you can figure out roughly the abdominal regions but. I don't want to be prescriptive

the way the Denial End deals with a character becoming huge feels so much more earnest than a lot of macro art does bc you probably wouldn’t feel like you were that in control of a body so big, or it would be a huge shock to the system - which runs contrary to the themes of domination in a lot of it
