Used some of the 2-part tamiya putty recently and it's not for every job but it was very easy to work with.

Tachyon Eddy @cyaup.bsky.social · 10/04/2025

I tried a couple different things but went back to classic 2-part tamiya putty and luckily it was not too old or anything. It's more on the stiff side but it seemed very workable both while drying and then filing or sanding afterwards, and it took paint well.

To get this much detail at 1:350 is a real achievment and this kind of consistency is amazing.

Underneath that temporary mess of electrical tape, there's enough good lead-free solder so no adjustment was necessary. Side-tracked by work, finally got a locomotive moving again for the first time in a week after picking up a few feet of wire for the controller to the board until DCC. Wire is $$$!

That's a good observation. I've seen and walked a few of those. When it's old canal routes you don't think twice about it, but discontinued railroads feel like lost opportunities.

110

Tachyon Eddy @cyaup.bsky.social · 10/04/2025

It's definitely good to see rail projects still moving forward. You worry these days they'll buy the railroad and pave over the tracks for a highway.😅

I guess it would depend on whether Todd could feed from Odo's life force?

020

Tachyon Eddy @cyaup.bsky.social · 10/04/2025

Todd the Wraith vs. Odo... who would win?

110

Tachyon Eddy @cyaup.bsky.social · 10/04/2025

If Todd the Wraith showed up on Deep Space 9, he must have been very lost.

It really is getting ridiculous to the point it seems more likely a game. I know the logic works out that it doesn't matter one way or another since you wouldn't do anything differently, but I'd still like to know.😆

Look at those free cars. I could have taken more too but I hate feeling greedy. He also gave me some of his art (he is the artist). He does lots of motorsports art and has done livery for IMSA cars before.

If you haven't seen modern model trains, one option is sound from the real train, the engine as well as the horn, adjusting for speed and everything. I haven't called anything "fairly amazing" so I'll use that to describe it.

Tachyon Eddy @cyaup.bsky.social · 10/04/2025

OK, now that's a nice thing he's doing that should inspire us to do similar.

Great stuff! I'll have a tugboat right at the canter of my layout, but it's a container-ship-pushing harbor tug so quite a bit bigger. C'mon, you know you want to model a harbor area.😄

Tachyon Eddy @cyaup.bsky.social · 10/04/2025

Alexandria is a metro station too and it's nice walking that area down to the river as long as you don't mind the long uphill walk back, but of course there's a bus line.

Tachyon Eddy @cyaup.bsky.social · 09/04/2025

Normally that wouldn't pique my interest but since it's you I can't wait to see.I'm guessing it's epic?😅

Treats of rewatching DS9 and not skipping episodes: Sisko flipping mode at dinner at Starfleet Academy when Nog doesn't want to name members of Red Squad: "Cadet, you are obviously under the mistaken impression that I am asking a favor." SIsko's gear-change & the look on Nog's face is priceless.😆

Wait, I never thought about it until now... but does Odo see through his eyes or what? If he does, then it seems unlikely he could make something as complicted as working eyes but couldn't make himself decent ears. #DeepSpace9 #StarTrek

Getting back to some regular O gauge programming. Just a little temporary layout till after Saturday. Our club is having a train show Saturday (in grand rapids mi if anyone's local) so things around here are a mess atm. Gonna have a few marklin layouts running there and selling stuff too!

That's interesting. If you've ever travelled internationally and didn't make calls home because of the roaming costs (which can be ridiculously expensive some places) you can get an eSIM called Saily that will make mobile calls and internet browsing seem to originate in whatever country you pick.

For a long time, there has been a brand of coffee syrup in parts of the US called Autocrat, named after a series of long-forgotten articles which referred to coffee as the "autocrat of the breakfast table".

The planet, self-aware, cared less than those on the surface thought what went on up there but every once in a while its patience would tire and the ten-thousand year lighting would come, lashing down against the worst while leaving most untouched. Then, it spoke one to one with those left. #vss365

I haven't tried one but it's fascinating to me the way the metal starts out flat and is thin enough to bend into shape but then strong because of the final shapes, so it's like making a real locomotive in that even though the metal is so thick it's bent into shape in similar ways.

I was stunned by this painting and wondering what the guy on the cliff was doing. It's from a poem and he's a Welsh bard that protested the English occupation by throwing himself of the cliff.

I guess it could also be "Stop:", "Stop.", or even "Stop!" The exact lyrics have been lost to the Internet copypasta unless someone has an old CD with the lyrics in the insert.

I guess technically the correct lyrics are either "Stop," or "Stop..." which could have some interesting consequences on a stop sign.

I have invented the most difficult trolley problem of them all

A drawing called "the trolley problem" depicting a train track splitting into two, with an oncoming trolley. One one set of tracks are stick figures labeled "five serial killers" and on the other is a stick figure labeled "whoever introduced internet children to the trolley problem". There is another stick figure near a switch, who has to make the choice to send the trolley one way or another
