I fucking love writing, and I'm never ever going to ask an LLM to do it for me. Why would you let the machine have the fun? #amwriting #darkfantasy #wipsnips

Day one on the new book and here's the first entry into my word count spreadsheet. This is my thirteenth book, the fourth and final in this series. Thus begins the new project for the next couple of months! After that, well, there's a whole lot of editing and redrafting to do on books 2 - 4!
A screenshot of an Excel spreadsheet showing a date of 10/4/26, a total word count of 2,324, and expected word count of 1,500, a daily average of 2,324, and a daily over/under of 824 words.

My book The Blond That Bonds was featured in this week's Obooko newsletter, which is super cool! It's free, has been free since 2009, and will be free forever. It's a story of descent and rebirth, despair, redemption, and growth. It's also the first in a trilogy. cwbwriting.com/books/theblo...
It's the cover for the Blood That Bonds! It features a close-up, straight on portrait of a young woman with long, dirty-blonde hair. She's got glowing green eyes, pale skin, and red lips. Her makeup is running, she's got scrapes and much all over her face, and there is blood running from her mouth down to her chin. There is a hint of fangs visible. At the top in white sans-serif font are the words "Christopher Buecheler" and at the bottom in distressed, gradiented red font, the words "THE BLOOD THAT BONDS". Below that, in a small version of the same font as the author text, are the words "Part One of the II AM Trilogy" (the II is a roman numeral 2).

A young woman stands in front of the a full moon. She is dark-skinned, with long dark hair held back in a ponytail tied with multiple cords. She has full lips and heavy-lidded eyes and is standing in near-profile. She's wearing a tank top, and all of her exposed skin is covered in tattoos. The painting is in black and white. Low in the background, one can see the suggestion of modern buildings.

I want to these in Paris so badly. They're cool looking, they're solarpunk as hell, and they store way more carbon than trees do. They shouldn't replace trees, of course, as those have many other benefits ... but they should absolutely replace standard benches and bus stops. liquid3.rs
It's a liquid tree! A solar-powered tank full of algae that also doubles as a bench. The algae captures carbon as it grows and is then collected on a regular basis and used as fertilizer (among other things), putting the carbon back into the ground instead of in the atmosphere. It's right at home on a street in Serbia, between several mature trees.

So, I think this piece (Pastel, 1995, senior year high school) is perhaps my magnum opus. I present: Grover in Space.
It's a pastel drawing of Grover, from Sesame Street. He is VAST - dwarfing two separate planets. He floats through a black void peppered with white, yellow, and red glowing dots (stars). One of the planets is mostly cut off in the lower left (Grover's hand is behind it) but looks like a purple and pink gas giant. Grover is reaching out toward another, smaller planet. It is earth-like, with water, clouds, and land-masses, but has a tight pink ring around it. Grover looks very happy, but the overall composition is kind of menacing. In the bottom right is a "CB95" signature.

Hello Alicante and thank you for the very acceptable hotel room view!
A view from a hotel room. There is a small balcony with two chairs and a table. Beyond that is a vast blue pool with a ton of deck chairs. Beyond that are a couple of small native gardens. Beyond those is the vast blue sea, with a slight pink tinge to the sky where it meets the water because the sun is beginning to set (out of view)

Well, mydialect.us sure nailed it. I was born in Massachusetts and split most of my childhood between there and Syracuse, NY. I also lived in SoCal for five years, and in Philadelphia and NYC. And Rhode Island. So basically all of the red areas on the map, except 2 years in Indianapolis.
A map of the united states showing that I speak the most like people in New England and New York, with some orange in California also. the area of deepest blue is the deep south: Alabama, Louisiana, etc. It lists my most similar cities as Boston, Portland ME, and NYC. It lists my least similar cities as New Orleans, Nashville, and Houston. Overall I speak the most like someone from Massachusetts, which makes sense since my mom is from there and that's where I lived from around the age of 2 to whatever age kids are when they start 7th grade. I dropped the MA accent, but I still use a lot of their terms.

Anytime you worry you're not good at your job, remember that someone got paid to tell this hotel chain that yes, this faucet was a good choice to go with this basin. Never mind that if you don't turn it on full blast, which causes it to spray water all over your groin, it pours out the back.

From a private discord I'm in, my thoughts on the whole "clanker" thing.
So, I guess I'll be mildly contrarian here ... I see the point people are making about "clanker". I do think its use in The Clone Wars, a tv show for children, was misguided. In that instance, it's obviously based on a long history of military use of slang like that to dehumanize and other the opposition (cf gooks, slopes, huns, bosh, etc). That series rubbed me the wrong way in a lot of different ways, including how routinely demeaning it is to what are obviously sentient droids.

I do absolutely think there's a difference between using a slang term for machines and using one for actual human beings, but the example of the woman with the myoelectric arms being repeatedly called a clanker by people is a good demonstration of how easily the language jumps across that barrier. I've also seen people use the term "clanker lover" which uh ... is a real, *real* bad look.

Ultimately, I'm not going to spend a lot of time on Bsky or whatever calling people out about it. But it's not a term I intend to use, not because of worries the machines will remember someday (I've seen people make this argument and I believe it's truly ridiculous), but because I think it's a fairly slippery slope to start throwing terms like that around. I think we're all better off without that kind of shorthand.

(thanks for coming to my TED talk, etc etc)

My normal breakfast, for comparison, is an egg and spinach scramble with feta. It provides similar macros: 14g carbs, 31g fat, 33g protein. It also, you know ... tastes good. I don't normally track salt and pepper but "a good amount" also goes in.
A screenshot from a calorie tracking app. It shows 3 large eggs, 50g feta cheese, 200g frozen spinach, and 6g butter.

Sad to report that while this breakfast's macros are pretty good - 46g carbs, 18g fat, 36g protein - it is boring as hell. Needs more cinnamon, more vanilla, and more almond flavor. Also soupier than I expected. Will have to play around with ratios.
A shot of a calorie-tracking app showing an overnight oats recipe. It includes 40g rolled oats, 30g whey powder, 10g chia seeds, 0.5 tsp cinnamon, 1 dash salt, 0.5 tsp vanilla extract, 15g unsweetened creamy almond butter, 7.039 oz (200ml) unsweetened almond milk, and a packet of Equal sweetener, without which this truly would've been a flavorless tragedy.

If you have to put up a sign like this in your hotel bathroom, what you have is not a usage problem. You have a design problem. The fix is not a sticker. It's designing a bathroom that is usable by people with all levels of mobility.

No One Leaves Clean (2026) - Eileen Noise. This is a project between Marco, an Italian bassist who did basically all of the music and Sophie, an American (I think) singer. Grunge-influenced hard rock. The music's fairly typical post-grunge imo (POD, Staind, etc), but the vocalist is very good.
The album cover for Eileen Noise. It's a photograph of a woman leaning out of the backseat window of a car (70s or 80s sedan, it looks like) that's driving down a gravel road in what looks like the mojave desert under an overcast sky, with hills in the background. The woman is very 90s heroin chic: young and broadly attractive; pale skin; very thin; somewhat stringy, long, dark hair; tons of eye shadow/liner; a black tank top; a necklace with a cross pendant. She looks very grumpy. At the top right of the image in black typewriter font are the words "eileen noise" and below that in the same font but smaller and in grey, the words "no one leaves clean"

Victory Garden (2026) - Young the Giant. I didn't like their previous album, American Bollywood. It was a bit more experimental and just didn't grab me. First time listening to this one; it appears to move back more toward their pop-rock roots. Seems fine. This is never going to be a favorite band.
The album cover to Victory Garden by Young the Giant. It's a cream-colored square. It's padded about half an inch on all sides. Inside that is a black and white photo that appears to be taken at an outdoor festival of some sort. There's a crowd of people in front of a bunch of trees and a clear sky (which fades into the cream color of the background). In the foreground of the picture, a young woman has her head tilted back and her hands raised, eyes closed, an expression of quasi-religious rapture on her face. The rest of the crowd, mostly men, seems a bit nonplussed. Above all of this in hand-painted lettering are the words "YOUNG THE GIANT" in green and "VICTORY GARDEN" in orange. Above the green are three simple painted flowers in purple, yellow, and orange.

The album cover for The Mountain by Gorillaz. It is an image of the top of a mountain above a vast, cloud-filled sky (most of the clouds are lower than the mountain). On top of the mountain are the four Gorillaz characters, variously perched and looking off into the distance. Above them in a gradiented yellow-to-orange, heavily outlined in black font is the hindi word for "Mountain".

POSSESSED - My new novel, is out June 18th, Pre-Orders available now! Just $3.99! Today's character is Matthias, the cult leader, illustrated by the amazing @beavs.bsky.social Here's a pic, a description, and some quotes/scenes Learn More: cwbwriting.com/books/posses... #BookSky
Matthias is a white male in his forties or fifties. He has short blonde hair, slightly swept back, and blue eyes. Despite living in south Florida, his skin is very fair. He is long and lean but not muscular. He is wearing a blue button-down dress shirt. He is looking directly at the camera, head tilted slightly down, and smirking a bit. He looks cruel. Above him is the POSSESSED logo and below him in sans-serif white deco font are the words "JUNE 18 • CWBWRITING.COM"Matthias has been obsessed with demonology since his encounter with a possessed woman when he was in his twenties. He has spent three decades researching, studying, and searching for arcane knowledge. Though he hides it well, he has also become unstable, dangerous, and obsessed with punishing the people of Miami.

Older than he seems, and much scarier than Shannon realizes, Matthias has spent his entire life waiting for the opportunity to bond with a demon. When Amber accidentally takes that opportunity from him, he is crestfallen and enraged. Unsure what, exactly, prevented the thing he considers his birthright, and unwilling to admit to any of his devotees that the procedure didn't work, he buys time with other magic while attempting to suss out what went wrong.

As time drags on, and he grows more desperate, Matthias begins to consider other, more terrible actions to get what he wants.

He will bring Miami to its knees, and anyone who stands in his way had better have help.
“I used to be like you,” he said. “Or perhaps more like Dylan. I was young and stupid, and while I wanted to believe, I’d never been shown anything to believe in, so I mostly focused on getting drunk and getting laid. I was never in a group like our family, but off and on I met people who believed. Most of them were hopeless. All of them, until Cassandra. She believed, but that wasn’t all of it. She was also real in a way the others weren’t. It was like all the other people I’d met were fuzzy, indistinct shadows and she was the only person I’d ever known who was a full part of the world. She glowed.”

He paused and looked away, the expression on his face not what Amber had expected. There was no nostalgia there. In fact, he looked a little sick.

There were gasps as it happened, but before anyone could say anything, a single wide rope of fire launched itself along the table toward Matthias. It leapt the gap, even as he continued chanting, his voice now a roar, and hit him square in the chest. In the next instant, his entire body went up in flames.

Next to Amber, Shannon’s gasp turned into a cry of terror, and she stepped forward, as if there was anything she was going to be able to do for Matthias other than join him in burning to death. It was already way too late for stop, drop, and roll. The guy was a walking inferno. Amber pulled on Shannon’s shoulders and, when that didn’t work, Dylan reached out and grabbed her arms. Everyone else remained rooted to their spots.

“Let me go!” Shannon shouted, struggling against Dylan’s grip.

“Dude, not a fuckin’ chance,” Dylan said, and his voice was such an odd combination of baffled shock and common sense that Amber burst out laughing.

... there's more but Bsky limits alt text length, sorry!

Unacceptable, @proton.me!
A feedback form in Proton Mail. It has been filled in with the following:

Hello,

It has recently come to my attention that Proton is sponsoring French far-right "influencers" on YouTube. This is utterly unacceptable. Why are you giving money to fascist, racist hate-mongers?

As an immigrant in France myself, I am lucky to not have to deal with the racism (I'm a white American) but I still see and hear the things that immigrants from other parts of the globe have to put up with here. It's revolting to me that any portion of the money I'm paying to Proton annually for my two different plans is going to further these divisive voices.

This needs to be addressed speedily and with nothing short of apology and a concrete plan for doing better. Otherwise I and many others are going to migrate from Proton, just as we migrated from Google when their company practices became unsupportable.

Thank you for your time,

-Christopher Buecheler

Normal Isn't (2026) - Puscifer. I am listening to this album for the first time as I type this! It's still adhering to what's becoming kind of the standard pseudo-electronica Puscifer formula at this point, but it's at least less soporific than their previous release. There's more going on.
The album cover to Normal Isn't by Puscifer. It's a black square with everything inside it centered horizontally. At the top is a spiky brushstroke PUSCIFER logo in mustard yellow. In the middle in roughly 16x9 aspect ratio is what looks like an acrylic painting. It's a prairie with a few small trees in the distance, and a dark brown sky full of smoke. The prairie is on fire. In the middle ground is a clapboard two-story house with a peaked roof over the entrance. Birds (probably crows) fly above it. In the foreground, standing in the prairie grass, is a woman in a black duster and brown vest. Her hands have been bound with rope, but the rope hangs loose from each of them. The wind is blowing the flames, the trees, and her hair to her left (our right). It has blown a black cowboy hat from her head. Below this in red sans-serif font are the words "NORMAL ISN'T" and below that in mustard yellow is a small logo that looks like a lightning bolt in a circle.

At the Nanterre / AS Monaco playoff game. Great crowd! Unfortunately, Nanterre has missed basically every single open shot they've had, and also have like three hundred turnovers. Down fifteen at the half. Let's go, third quarter comeback!

"You'll grow more conservative as you get older!" I'm 49 and this dot has not moved northeast in the slightest in nearly 20 years. www.politicalcompass.org
A political compass made up of economic on the X axis and social on the Y axis, with Authoritarian at the north and Libertarian at the south, left-leaning economically on the west, right-leaning economically on the east. My dot is in the far southwest, meaning very left-leaning economically and very anti-authoritarian.

Tenterhooks (2026) - Silversun Pickups. We've reached this year. Truth is, I haven't listened to this or any 2026 album much, because I've been busy doing this thread! Some catchy tunes on this one (Nikki's Au Revoir Reservoir is a banger). Some weird rhythm choices. Needs more listens to hook me.
The album cover to Tenterhooks by Silversun Pickups. In keeping with their other covers, it is largely abstract. It's a painting, starting brown at the bottom and then moving to yellow-orange at the top, albeit not in a smooth gradient. In the brown section is what looks like a wood burning illustration of mountains and fir trees. Above that we move into the yellow-orange section, which looks like a watercolor panting, with bands of umbers blending into the more yellow tones. In the center is what resembles a smoothed-over mountain, long eroded, but it's formed entirely with shades of pink, and slight highlights of light blue. Here are there are scattered small rectangular shapes, and shapes that look like slightly distorted upside-down "U"s. At the bottom in which sans-serif font are the words "SILVERSUN PICKUPS" and below them, in larger, gold-foil serif font the word "TENTERHOOKS" - the "Tenter" part is slightly larger than the "Hooks" part, and the cross bars on both "T"s extend further on the right than on the left.

Heeyyyy there it is. Wilt Chamberlain is a cheat code in this game. Fun little app, though! 82-0.com Amusingly, Chamberlain (and Hayes) would be even MORE powerful if they'd tracked blocks and steals back then.
A screenshot from 82-0.com showing that a basketball team with Fat Lever at PG, Pete Maravich at SG, Larry Bird at SF, Elvin Hayes at PF, and Wilt Chamberlain at C scores a perfect 82-0, with a total scored of 112.6 points. 122 PPG, 62.8 RPG, 27.6 APG, 5.8 SPG, 1.4 BPG

The Rest of the Story (2025) - Big Wreck. This album has the distinction of having the first and only Big Wreck song I've ever genuinely hated on it: Holy Roller, a Van Halen tribute. I do not like Van Halen. Other than that, the album's solid. I feel like Big Wreck could slow their pace a bit tho.
The album cover to The Rest of the Story by Big Wreck. It is a battered and scuffed notebook/sketchbook cover. It's pink-red, with a square, white double border near its edges In the center is an embossed sunburst with an angel that looks like it's unconscious and being held in someone's arms, though there is no someone holding it. Above that, also embossed, in distressed white, sans-serif display font, are the words "BIG WRECK" and below it, non-embossed, in distressed, yellow-white, serif font, are the words "THE REST OF THE STORY". Behind this notebook cover, along the right side, you can see a hint of the album cover for their previous album, Pages.
