There is a tangible difference between the expectations of getting your haircut, paying what you want (or not at all), at a bar…. To going into a shop knowing the minimum the shop charges for a walk in haircut is $30. I feel ok about the value I’m giving you for $20; I’m anxious about charging more

I also just started interning at a barbershop; nowhere close to where I’ve been doing free cuts and building a little awareness. Being in one place on a schedule should help to turn walk-ins into regulars, but it’s starting from zero all over again, and now at a different level of client expectation

In terms of client acquisition, I don’t know that I’m that far along yet. Doing haircuts at a bar on the monthly has definitely helped give me exposure and community to tap into. I would like to cut the hair of more bartenders, in more bars :)

that’s about it, as far as where social media is actively useful; and in that, it’s (for me) only in Meta’s portfolio of IG and FB. No one finds me through social media. They find me through Google searches because I’m listed with a small business that indexes high for that search in Chicago.

Some social media has been helpful to me as a new barber: * Chicago neighborhood facebook groups, in driving some IRL foot traffic to barbering pop-ups I ran this summer. * Reels/video of my haircuts as provenance when someone looks me up that I *do* cut all types of hair, including their own
