Wallace did not invent pikes for defending against heavy horse, either (some weak claim to the schiltron pike formation).
Also, the battle of Stirling Bridge was won by the Scots when the English heavy horse crossed a ford and a narrow bridge and got stuck in a marsh. A bit less glorious.
