Story from @theathletic.com today could easily have used a headline that ran 107 years ago in "The Evening World" in the aftermath of the Black Sox scandal.

On This Date in Forgettable #Cubs History: Sixty years ago today, the last-place Cubs beat the visiting Reds, 9-3, before 530 fans. It was the smallest crowd ever to see a game at Wrigley but just a few hundred less than the 941 people who had turned out to see the Cubs one week before.

Yes, along with having a Greek Orthodox priest sprinkle holy water in the #Cubs dugout in 2008 and inviting the fury of Lou Piniella, who knew nothing of the stunt beforehand, Crane Kenney has added another debacle to his legacy file.

If the Brewers had any character, the big league club would follow the lead of their High-A team and go to the lederhosen uni’s, only full time. Too much coolness to ask for of the Brewers, I guess.

Something I noticed with Tariq Skubal last night and Shota tonight: the names on their jerseys aren't centered but rather, pushed right. Do the sewn letters restrict movement for their throwing arms, so the lettering is adjusted to compensate? Am I the only one who didn't know this? #MLB #baseball

I love the discrepancies between baseball language and soccer language when describing the same thing, e.g., shutout vs. clean sheet. And if you don’t think that the next time the #Cubs are holding an opponent scoreless I’ll write “The Cubs have not conceded a run,” prepare to be surprised.

Phil Regan died today. He led the ill-fated '69 team with 17 saves and saved 60 games over five seasons as a Cub. He was also part of a fantastic trade with the #Dodgers, which brought Regan and the outstanding Jim Hickman to Chicago for two guys I'm confident you've never heard of. RIP, Vulture.
