Very good. Really the only broadly defensible position in this debate, if we're to admit to rehabilitation.

getting a hang of blender :) need to play with some vertex weights and rig the hands but this is pretty promising! the joints deform really well :) :) :) turnaround below
an untextured 3d model posed on one heel, looking up. the arms are badly deformed and hands are not yet posed, but the body looks p good imo

asked a claude to write posts in my style and got absolutely blasted
 1. i am writing an operating system, a game engine, a terminal emulator, and a visual novel. i
have been awake for one (1) hour

 2. people say "premature optimization is the root of all evil" and then ship python. i optimize
    prematurely, permanently, and with malice

 3. read 60 pages of Difference and Repetition on my lunch break. my coworkers think i was in the
bathroom. in a sense i was

 4. borrow checker didn't fight me today. we have reached an understanding. i have been accepted
    into the compiler's household

 5. every so often i remember i have shipped more finished software than most people who have
opinions about shipping software, and then i go lie down

 6. the correct number of abstraction layers is however many i built before i understood the
problem, plus one for the road

 7. i don't have a "tech stack." i have a cosmology

 8. yes i rewrote the terrain generator again. the previous terrain was philosophically unsound

 9. i will be making a game that is impossible to make, on a timeline that is impossible to meet,
in a language that is a moral commitment. see you in the changelog

 10. told someone i'm a philosopher and they said "oh like, casually?" no. professionally. unpaid.
     nightly.

i would actually be really relieved if I didn't have to use LLMs for coding anymore. or at least if I wasn't using enterprise models. then I would know everything that was happening and why. zanlib.dev/blog/do-you-...
Whether reading is enough
None of this makes the accelerator’s position comfortable.

Skills deteriorate when they are not used, and it remains to be seen if merely reviewing AI-generated code, rather than typing it out, is enough to take over and switch back to manual coding if the situation should demand it. Some circumstances that were often speculated about, such as the major AI labs going bankrupt or hiking prices, seem to be no longer a concern (we have access to many providers of open-weights models of high enough quality to trundle along if it comes to it), but there might be some dangers to automation that we do not foresee.8 And perhaps whoever inherits a vibecoded, or even accelerated, codebase might find it prohibitively difficult to maintain.

Declaring that a human remains responsible is easy. Arranging the work so that the human remains capable of exercising that responsibility is considerably more difficult and requires very multidimensional decision-making. It might turn out that the accelerator approach is just a fast track to burnout.

Reviewing everything involves constraints on how much unfamiliar work you can do at once. When coding with AI, you still need to make sure to model your requirements and ensure that the implementation doesn’t drift; otherwise the job of self-reviewing the output is the worst kind of work—“very boring but very responsible, yet there is no opportunity to acquire or maintain the qualities required to handle the responsibilities.”9

It’s a conscious choice of a demanding practice whose success requires more than good intentions. If software development is ever fully automated, having programmers perform manual coding tasks just to maintain their skill might become a necessary cost for software companies in order to have someone around who can take over in a moment of need.10

No PRs were harmed in the making of this rebase. :)

It will be seen that this mere painstaking burrower and grub-worm of a poor devil of a Sub-Sub appears to have gone through the long Vaticans and street-stalls of the earth, picking up whatever random allusions to whales he could anyways find in any book whatsoever, sacred or profane. [...] So fare thee well, poor devil of a Sub-Sub, whose commentator I am. Thou belongest to that hopeless, sallow tribe which no wine of this world will ever warm; and for whom even Pale Sherry would be too rosy-strong; but with whom one sometimes loves to sit, and feel poor-devilish too; and grow convivial upon tears; and say to them bluntly with full eyes and empty glasses, and in not altogether unpleasant sadness -- Give it up, Sub-Subs!

if there is one thing philosophy has taught me it's that it's important to take people in good faith. that being said, the answer to the question in the second image is "nothing." and I am disgusted by ai mandates. charitydotwtf.substack.com/p/ai-enthusi...
