iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

all my artist proofs i kept, kept a beta hypnotic specter, a gift from a friend 30 year ago. probably still have 100 cards. oh and i kept my weird sword of feast and famine, the one that never got released.

i wanna go to grad school and also flying planes is super expensive. but mostly i was worried about a fire or theft or a leaking roof.

2190

i kept some sentimental cards and all of my many artist proofs. and i still have like twenty magic paintings, so it will always be with me. but having something that valuable lying around is very anxiety inducing.

someone walks in my front door and then 100 minutes later, 32 years of my life are gone. sold my entire magic collection, 63 duals, tabernacle, foil cradle and monolith and wheel and so much more. trying not to cry even if i know it was the right decision.

Assuming it's common? Ironclad: 3x Perfected Strike Silent: 3x Prepared Regent: 3x Crescent Spear Necrobinder: Dunno, Grave Warden maybe? Not sure. This was the final deck btw, 4x Claw, 4x Scrape+, Beam Cell+, GFTE+, Glacier+ automatically cast, it was silly.

Also the first card reward I got was Scrape, thanks Mega Crit.

000

Is it really? Huh! I guess I didn't know that -- the run was won almost immediately. TIL, thanks for that.

i’m not sure where i said anything about preferential treatment at all? think trans women should get to compete, and the reality is that they will almost always fare poorly against cis women who are genetic outliers.

100

April King @cube.april.social · 27/05/2026

if you think trans women with suppressed testosterone are more unfair than cis women with naturally high testosterone, i suggest you look at literally any athletic competition. where the latter dominate and the former barely ever rank.

would it be fair to your niece if she lost to a girl who was a few inches taller? or if she lost to a girl whose body produced a higher level of testosterone? or lost to a girl whose rich parents had money to afford multiple private trainers? are we gonna ban all those too?

MTGO Commander Window Bug

I think I deleted of my Magic video content as it was really old, but here's one I kept around. 4K makes such an absurd difference when watching: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpLK...

YouTube video by CubeApril

Yeah, I think when I was streaming I would stream at 1080p (or maybe 1440p?) and then save 4k locally for youtube.

what's wild is despite it having been eight years since then, with CPUs and GPUs getting ever more powerful, and bandwidth becoming ever more available, that 1080p is still the default resolution for Magic recordings. at least do 1440p!

uhhhh is that really a thing??

funnily enough the one that's most broken is the purchasing library -- if you try to buy anything through Arena it locks the game up entirely.

330

April King @cube.april.social · 10/06/2025

Unity is fine actually -- it's the third-libraries they include that don't work. Most of them haven't been updated in years and years.

April King @cube.april.social · 10/06/2025

Looks like Apple is doing to discontinue Rosetta 2 support after the next couple years, which I guess makes sense because most apps switched to being Apple Silicon native years ago. (except for Arena, which is still broken unless you run it with the much slower Rosetta 2 mode)

afaik the company hasn't grown proportionally to its revenue, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was still true.

i don't make games but i do write fiction. and i know it's been almost a decade since @maro254.bsky.social wrote this but i still think about lesson 11 — if everyone likes your game but no one loves it, it will fail — all the time: magic.wizards.com/en/news/maki...

food is generally a fairly small percentage of restaurant costs (and coverable with higher prices), it seems to me that it’s more likely that they will get destroyed by massive cutbacks in consumer discretionary spending. either way, bad news for restaurants.

i mean in this case the real problem is not an alchemy card but a card banned in other formats -- honestly there isn't a single alchemy card that's truly a problem.
