This calls for reappraising the "leading eight" moral systems first identified by Ohtsuki & Iwasa (2004). All are stable in prisoner's dilemmas, but only L2 and L6 are consistent. Only L2 (contrite discriminator + Consistent Standing) is stable in every dilemma, making it the "leading one". 5/6
Table of cooperation and stability indices with rare errors, shaded darker for lower values. Top: the four consistent discriminating systems all cooperate fully. Consistent CDISC scores 1 (fully stable) in prisoner's dilemmas, snowdrift games and stag hunts. Consistent DISC scores 2/3 in snowdrift games, and consistent ODISC and PDISC score 2/3 in prisoner's dilemmas. Bottom: the leading eight all score 1 in prisoner's dilemmas. Only L2 (CDISC, Consistent Standing) scores 1 everywhere. L6 scores 2/3 in snowdrift games, and the other six score 0 in snowdrift games, stag hunts or both.

Yes, and I think Planer and Sterelny cite her 2014 paper. It's been a while since I read that paper myself. If (!) I remember correctly it was more about what is talked about near fire, not so much about the evol of language itself.

We need entry-threshold grant lottery systems with easy-to-estimate and easy-to-write basis - plus a basic-incoming grant basis. The latter will be very efficient in its use, the former will be just as 'good' as the current systems in its decisions, but far less wasteful in writing and reviewing.

In fact, there are good reasons to believe the groups differ. When Shingrix launched, uptake was very low (2.6% of newly eligible adults in year one) due to supply shortages, higher costs, & a two-dose requirement. The early adopters are likely to be wealthier and more health conscious. 9/10 🧵

Claudio Tennie @ctennie.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
Flexible compositionality is important for language. Finding it in apes would certainly matter for language evolution research. Claims need robust tests & reliable data, theory anchors etc. Did we show that bonobos /other apes never do this? No. Yet, we should be careful b4 concluding that they do.

Claudio Tennie @ctennie.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
We then reanalysed the original data, using an improved test (permutation plus weighted MCA). Did a combinational call pattern stand out from chance? It did not. We conclude that the original data dooes not provide evidence for compositional meaning.

Claudio Tennie @ctennie.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
We fed the same MCA pipeline data for which we knew it contained no real signal (randomized data). Yet this returned “significant” patterns in *84.3% of cases*, when we applied the original missing data patterns.
