Here's how I met Plymouth Congregational Church, which supported me personally (see below!), 2LGBTQIA+ and marginalized people generally, and reading freedom boldly during #MahmoudvTaylor. Organized religion is complicated for me, but I found love among these people. That gives me hope!
Rainbow-sparkle background with two girls at top for decoration and QR code. Lavender box with black and violet text: "From a thank-you letter to Plymouth Cong. Church: “I discovered Plymouth after I came out in the Minneapolis StarTribune in 2007. I’d left a faculty position at an Evangelical college and shocked my family. My friend suggested I might feel welcome at Plymouth. I did! The music, prayers, and messages of justice healed me when I thought I no longer had a religious home.”Same background with soft yellow box and black/ violet text: " From a thank-you letter to Plymouth Cong. Church: “Soon after, I fell in love with Tara, who was also coming out late in life, while in seminary to become a military chaplain. We had to hide our joy in public, but Plymouth was a true sanctuary. You were one of our few safe places. (I hope you forgave our 100-watt smiles and sappy handholding in those first days of new love!)”Same background with soft peach box and black/ violet text: From a thank-you letter to Plymouth Cong. Church:
“Thank you for your part in
our personal story
and in our shared story of crafting a more loving, just society together.
I wish you peace and courage for whatever is before you.
Keep being light,
keep being hope,
keep being love
in a troubled world.”

4.	Soft green to blue background with rainbow on top with soft heart framing page.
"Justice Thomas suggested that schools “cabin” LGBTQ+ representation into separate units to make opt-outs easier.

But the Supreme Court already decided: SEPARATE IS NOT EQUAL.

Justice Alito wrote for the majority that our books are “coercive” because they show LGBTQ+ JOY. Which is HUMAN JOY.
Every child deserves books that honor their FULL HUMANITY.

EVERYONE belongs at school. EVERYONE belongs in this world."5.	Soft green to blue background with rainbow on top with soft heart framing page

"The Supreme Court doesn’t have the last word. WE DO.

We can OPT IN to INCLUSION.
Inclusive classrooms boost everyone.

“LGBTQ+ people and families exist. ...[B]ooks that include LGBTQ+ people
should not be treated differently...

The Court’s decision does not require
our schools to abandon these efforts.

Parents, students, educators, and neighbors can encourage opportunities for learning about diverse people and families by staying involved with school districts, school boards, and in our local communities.” GLAAD"6.	Top banner with covers of picture books. Footer, pink to yellow with black text: "Love can still win! [heart] Charlotte xoxo" A soft heart frames the word "love." The center image is of the Supreme Court building at twilight, with light inside the building, rainbow and stars above it, with colorful characters from all the books on the steps. A joyful scene.

"Love, Violet was inspired by the joy of my own childhood crushes.

I was an LGBTQ+ child, like countless children. I needed stories like this one.
Readers have shared that finding themselves in this story has delighted and healed them. Children have hugged Love, Violet. Cishet children have asked for it over and over.

Children deserve relatable books that include them and those around them at school."3.	Soft orchid background with rainbow at the top with small image of Mira and Violet smiling and running.

"Religious liberty is essential.
But hiding LGBTQ+ people is not free exercise of religion. It is oppression.

School is where children learn how to disagree respectfully and to get along with people unlike themselves.

Opt-outs teach children to separate themselves, to fear and reject those they disagree with.

Opt-outs stigmatize LGBTQ+ children.
I hope parents OPT OUT of opt-outs, so their children learn kindness and are prepared to engage with a diverse world."

White text on turquoise box: "Every child deserves the freedom to read. The freedom to read leads to the freedom to learn. Children need to know that there are other people like them in the world, that they aren’t alone, that their hopes and fears are shared by others. And they need the freedom to read about different people with different views, from diverse ethnic backgrounds and abilities. The freedom to read means that children are free to have their own thoughts and beliefs and to make their own choices. It helps prepare them to be good citizens, to navigate and succeed in a complex and diverse world."

Taylor, a case brought by a group of parents from Montgomery County, Maryland, against the Board of Education for the County school district. The case revolves around the district’s decision to include certain books with LGBTQ+ characters and themes in the elementary school curriculum. The parents argue that their religious rights are being violated by not being able to opt their children out of class when such books are to be used. We, as authors and illustrators of the books, strongly support the school district and its decision to include our books in the curriculum."
