Presumably this gets them two 8-game weekends in December, which are gonna feature some thrilling ball somewhere around 1/3 of the time while the rest of these are gonna be blowouts between badly mismatched teams . . . just like bowl games. www.espn.com/college-foot...
Screenshot from linked article:

Under the proposed plan, teams seeded Nos. 1 through 8 would earn a first-round bye followed by a home game. (The No. 1 seed would face the winner of No. 16 vs. No. 17, the No. 2 seed would face the winner of No. 15 vs. No. 18 and so on). Teams hovering around No. 17 and No. 18 would want to move up so they can host a first-round home game (awarded to teams seeded Nos. 9-16), while teams at the bottom are constantly trying to stay in the field or protect their spot.

Back in 1984, people had to go out of their way to mess with birds, today you can just use that imitate call button on the Merlin bird app.
Far Side cartoon showing a woman in a winter coat pouring what looks like birdseed into a bird feeder on a tree. From inside the home, we can see the bag of birdseed sitting on a chair:

Given the "born in the 1900s" demographics around here, I'm shocked I don't see more Far Side posting. Be the change you want to see, I suppose.
One of today's thefarside.com comics. An old person sits on a chair inside a closed observation room. Two scientists sit on stools observing through a window. A third scientist lowers a small child in a birthday hat with noisemaker on a rope toward the old guy.

The child and the old guy are a a split second from becoming aware of each other and the caption reads "At the Crabbiness Research Institute"

Yeah, the only new information is credited to one (1) "industry insider" in two paragraphs, including the conclusion. Everything else is links to earlier and already known stories like 60 Minutes resignations and Tony Dokupil being ratings poison. Insider got themselves a nice headline, though.
Screenshot of upthread linked article:

The 42-year-old's revamp of CBS Mornings has also been a ratings loss.

"Everyone is wondering how soon it will take the Ellisons to pull the plug once the merger goes through," one industry insider told Radar. "CBS is desperately trying to spin these abysmal launch numbers as a win when the entire industry is laughing at yet the third failure on Bari's record."Screenshot from upthread linked article:

"60 Minutes used to be the most-watched news show in television and now it’s being outranked by weekday editions of World News Tonight," the insider continued. "It's one thing to deliver a dip in ratings and it’s another to totally submarine the most valuable brand in news."

The bright interpretation is 232-77 in yardage while they are a puny 1/6 on third to our magnificent 3/7. Lean on them until they fall. The dark interpretation is you did all that for +3 at halftime on a practiced "you're in here with me" team. The lead means nothing, the yards even less.

Oh, DTE, I waited six hours for an "estimate" and then you gave me - and everyone else I know - this. Thirty years of stubborn refusal to face what a warmer atmosphere will do to a power grid and we get multi-day outages for, at a minimum, hundreds of thousands of people on Labor Day weekend.
A DTE message saying that they anticipate 65% of people will be back up by midnight tomorrow night, 90% by Saturday, and the rest Sunday

High protein cockroach milk marketed to dude bros is something I'm going to see in my lifetime. What a time to be alive.
Screenshot from linked article under the "Chemistry" heading:

The authors extracted milk crystals from the guts of D. punctata roach embryos harvested from a brood sac and then performed X-ray diffraction experiments, augmented with free-electron lasers, to determine the protein structure of the crystals—achieving atomic-level resolution. They found that just one roach embryo crystal contained more than three times the energy of an equivalent amount of dairy milk because of its tightly packed crystalline lattice structure, which allows a higher concentration of food to be stored. “This unique storage form of nourishment for developing embryos allows access to a constant supply of complete nutrients,” they concluded. That’s yet another reason why cockroaches will likely inherit the Earth.

Douthat bemoans the moral hazard posed by Jennifer Aniston’s waxed pubic hair (“As with breast implants, it’s another instance of modern women taking their sexual cues from pornography…”).

I like getting old, it beats the alternative and there are upsides, but some things still startle. My youth in the 80s and 90s is getting very far back there. Remember to stretch every day and stay hydrated! We've only got 3.5 years left in the decade.

This is the only time Manuel is mentioned in this summary. The conclusion doesn't say he's leaving at the end of the year, just that they won't discuss that. So they leaked he's leaving to some reporters and are otherwise hoping this will all blow over. It's 9:30am on a Monday in July.

What did the culture review conclude regarding Athletic Director Warde Manuel?

The culture review found that Warde Manuel demonstrated important leadership strengths, particularly his commitment to student-athletes. At the same time, it identified failures to quickly and effectively act on allegations of wrongdoing by Athletic Department employees.

Now, the story: I am not a "talk to the TV" guy, I just sit there. But in the S2 finale, when Helen McCrory (also RIP) finally has the advantage, gun pressed into his guts as he still tries to intimidate her, I leapt off my couch and shouted "Do it, Pol!" right before she pulled the trigger.

A brief remembrance for #SamNeill: His role as Inspector Campbell in S1/S2 of Peaky Blinders is one of his best for me. A deeply twisted man utterly convinced of both his own flaws and his own righteousness, who hates himself as much as he hates his enemies.
