A month on, I‘m still trying to make #TheOdyssee all about #Tolkien – and @thetolkienist.com kindly indulged me again. This time: unconnected observations on various parallels between Lothlórien and an important stage #Nolan omits.

The one thing I haven’t seen addressed about the Odyssey movie. It talks about the loss of literacy as something tragic, and a culture which does not have literacy as barbarian. but the power of the poems prob. comes from originally being oral. That’s why Phemias is a rapper…

How would you rate Númenor‘s depiction in the series? It had *some* elements but surely fell short of its potential?

If I were to imagine Middle-earth as a tapestry, it would be woven with every color. So too should be its adaptations. So too should be its fan communities. You are welcome here. 🫶

Spoiler: the answer is a decisive ‚meeh!‘ The nature of #NewZealand often does not match Tolkien‘s idea, the most striking example being #Ithilien which has a high density of plant-names in the original text: the two main movie locations do NOT fit the description at all.

„20 + F + G + K + A + F + D + 26“
