Do I contradict myself? Well then, a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time.

In May 2009 two comic strips that are published right next to each other in the Boston Globe ran strikingly similar cartoons about pink snails meeting on a path and sharing a one-line gag.
Scan of two adjacent one-panel comic strips featuring pink snails talking to one another. The framing and colors of each is strikingly similar.

The first comic is Rhymes with Orange by Hilary B. Price. In it, the snail on the right has an uncurled shell and is saying, "I just had the best massage!"

The second comic is F Minus by Tony Carrillo. In it, the snail on the right has left a slime trail that reveals it has traveled a short distance to the right before turning around and traveling left again. The snail on the left is saying, "Dude! Long time no see!"

Panel from Detective Comics #730 (1999) by Bob Gale and Alex Maleev.

Batman is seen walking through a narrow urban environment, thinking "She made me realize how dependent I too had become on technology. I'd gotten so used to databases and quick answers that it took me a moment to remember that my finest, most reliable computer was right here with me. My Brain. To use it, all I had to do was think."

Although this comic book is from 1999, the user is reposting it in 2026 because of its relevance to the modern scourge of AI and cognitive atrophy.

Text of the 1816 poem, "Song for the Luddites" by George Gordon Byron, accompanied by a 1812 satirical cartoon, "The Leader of the Luddites," published by Walker & Knight.

The poem: "As the Liberty lads o'er the sea / Bought their freedom, and cheaply, with blood, / So we, boys, we / Will die fighting, or live free, / And down with all kings but King Ludd! / When the web that we weave is complete, /And the shuttle exchanged for the sword, / We will fling the winding sheet / O'er the despot at our feet, / And dye it deep in the gore he has pour'd. / Though black as his heart its hue, / Since his veins are corrupted to mud, / Yet this is the dew / Which the tree shall renew / Of Liberty, planted by Ludd!

The cartoon depicts Ned Ludd, the folklore hero of the Luddites, in drag, wearing disheveled, threadbare clothing, and missing a shoe. Behind him, rioters are celebrating the burning of a textile mill.

Five-panel Charles Atlas comic with the dialogue changed for satire. Panel one: a man and a woman on a beach towel are harassed by a second man kicking sand on them. The first man says, "watch it, pea brain!" and the second man replies, “Ha! I’m a PhD.”

Panel 2: the first man is at home with a book, kicking a chair in frustration and declaring, I’ll get my OWN degree, damn it.” and is then shown proudly saying,

Panel 3: Marked "later" the man is shirtless, admiring himself in a mirror and saying, “M.A. in American Literature -- dig it!”

Panel 4: The man and the woman are back on the beach, confronting their bully. The English major clocks the Ph.D. in the jaw, exclaiming: “Here’s an allegory of man’s struggle, bozo!”

Panel 5: The words "HERO OF THE BEACH” appear in the sky, and the woman asks him to “write a thesis for ME!” Bystanders comment, “Such brains!” and “And brawn!”

(Moral: a M.A. in American Literature trumps Ph.D.s in all other subjects.)
