Maybe my memory is going, but when I worked for a wireless provider (circa 2006), I don't think we charged people upgrade fees. I mean, you'd have to go out of your way to pay an activation fee. Now, you're charged for volunteering to give your cell carrier more money. When did this happen?

LinkedIn asked me if I wanted to edit a comment because I said the salesman using clickbait was insecure, saw people only as a means to an end, and made his entire life a numbers game with all the redeeming value of a tropical skin disease. I made no edits.

AI shartist: So, you thought it was good until you found out it was AI and that changed your opinion? Me: Yes. Yes, it did. It's like finding out someone traced someone else's art and passed it off as their own. I liked it, but only because of a false pretense. This is not hard to understand.

Today's fountain pen practice.
A pen sketch of a tree on a hill, surrounded by some bushes and a tree stump. There are some cumulus clouds on either side of the tree. The whole sketch is on graph paper and a blue fountain pen is laid across it. The pen is blue with a gold clip, made by a German company called Kaweco.

I think I figured out what was wrong. I took the battery out to reset it, and did some recalibrations in the app. Now my activity looks more normal.

I think my smartwatch has a problem. It says I did 12,000 steps today and that's just not possible. 3,000 is typical if I don't go for a walk.

A Threads user said that the shittiest stick figure drawing is better than anything made by prompting generative AI. I fully agree and made this in solidarity using Affinity.
A stick figure dripping with excrement in a pose of triumph. Above the head is a word balloon that says, "Behold my shittiness!"

There's always merit in being the first when it comes to a technology, but I'd argue there's just as much merit in getting it right. There's nothing wrong with being an early adopter, but not everyone is willing to take the risk. neuronplectrum.wordpress.com/2026/09/10/w...

Someone on LinkedIn is arguing that those who oppose AI yet eat meat are hypocrites. Basically, if the resources used by datacenters are outrageous, then where is the outrage for the agricultural sector raising animals for meat? This argument is stupid because YOU CANNOT EAT AI SLOP!

This is proof that genAI is not inevitable. If it was, they wouldn't have to spend billions of dollars forcing it down your throat. They wouldn't have to force everything to be opt-in by default. They wouldn't have to build data centers in poor neighborhoods where people can't fight back. Deny them.

I wonder if anyone has made some kind of database of toys with built-in motion sensors. I can only think of two (this is one of them, the other is a Stormtrooper figure), but it's a simple enough circuit that there have to be more. youtu.be/0Qy4D6LFnDo?...

Roomie's numbers are better thanks to a pair of transfusions and a saline drip, but now she has to wait for a GI specialist to weigh in. It might be the entire weekend before we know what the next steps are. May even have to reschedule her radiation treatments this coming Monday.

Why are there sirens blaring outside for the past 30 minutes? There's no storm warnings. If it's because of the heat, please enlighten me why you need to warn people about the temperature with sirens. I can't make my house any cooler.
