Crazy how De Zerbi has been given so much backing and autonomy at Spurs, while his predecessors were given nowhere near the same support. How exactly did De Zerbi manage to cultivate this status as an elite coach? I really can’t see it myself. I may yet be proved wrong but I think he’s fooled us.

Whenever I watch the Premier League Years on Sky I always feel that the mid 90s really was the golden equilibrium. That brief window that had the perfect balance of upgraded stadiums, tv coverage and world class talent, right before the money completely detached it from reality.

Sometimes feel like I’m one of the few Spurs fans not to have fallen under De Zerbi’s spell tbh. Has he done anything in his career to warrant this status as an ‘elite coach’? Hope I’m proven wrong given time, but feel he’s been given a lot of power. But yeah, not feeling it at all atm.

Is it just me or do clubs sign millions of wingers (who aren’t really wingers and never run down the wing) and midfielders, but hardly any strikers nowadays? Bring back 4-4-2 and target men.

De Zerbi doesn’t stay anywhere for long, he’s only interested in the current picture. Fine, great for De Zerbi if he does well and raises his stock and can move on, but rubbish for the club in the longer term Be prepared for a lot of shorter term purchases by the club.

There's something so refreshing about the World Cup and the general openness of games, largely due to the managers not having enough time with players to coach them to death. The humdrum of week to week robotic Premier League football will be tough to watch after all this.

Japan probably deserved this going to extra time at least.

Gareth Wyn Williams @crwydropeldroed.bsky.social · 24/06/2026

I’ve always detested the third round of group matches at the World Cup. While its understandable, I can never bare the thought of so many ‘wasted’ games as they kick off the same time and you’re forced to miss so many.

010

Gareth Wyn Williams @crwydropeldroed.bsky.social · 21/06/2026

I realise that De Zerbi is flavour of the month atm, but his record shows that he never stays anywhere for too long. We can’t allow huge prospects like Vuskovic and Bergvall to leave, just because they don’t suit De Zerbi’s short term vision. You just know that both will end up being superstars.

Gareth Wyn Williams @crwydropeldroed.bsky.social · 12/06/2026

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil had much friendlier kick-off times for European audiences. From memory, didn’t group games kick off at 5pm, 7pm and 11pm UK time? You were knackered the next day but could at least watch them all. No chance at all with 2/3am games. #WorldCup2026

Really not having this ‘Pep is the best coach of all time’ stuff. Yes he’s proved to be very innovative given almost unlimited resources at his disposal. But has he ever proven himself with an underdog club, or ever coached a club that didn’t have the league’s biggest budget?

Gareth Wyn Williams @crwydropeldroed.bsky.social · 25/04/2026

I’m not particularly attached to most of these players tbh, save for 2-3 like Bergvall and Gray. Just not feeling it at all. I’d rather stay up, but if not I think I’m actually quite looking forward to cultivating and shaping a young and hungrier squad in the Championship next season. #Spurs

020

Gareth Wyn Williams @crwydropeldroed.bsky.social · 25/04/2026

Not to say they aren’t talented individuals, but its obvious by now that no one can get a tune out of this squad. I tend to become a doom merchant when hope is lost, but would it really be the worst thing in the world to clear out most of this squad and start afresh in 2nd tier next season? #Spurs

They might turn it round second half but Spurs dominating that half and then conceding at the end of it… it just feels like the sort of thing relegated teams do

Gareth Wyn Williams @crwydropeldroed.bsky.social · 22/03/2026

This is what I feared tbh. Spurs have been rotten for months. And typically having finally turned a corner, they find themselves undeservedly a goal behind thanks to a Forest sucker punch.

There’s a lot of players at the club that I like. Still, clearly there’s a massive imbalance somewhere and deep rooted issues embedded at Spurs as you could honestly see most of these players thriving at a decently ran club. #Tottenham #Spurs

It still boggles my mind that we got rid of him for that. We threw away any chance to build on our first major trophy win in decades, we got rid of a manager who was proud to be at the club and spoke up for us, and we ripped up all goodwill around the club. All for this shit
