It was a pleasure to work with Michael Collins on this paper, further demonstrating that butyrate enhances hippocampal LTP through sex-specific FFAR3 signaling. doi: 10.1111/jnc.70475. These findings are consistent with our previous work: 10.1016/j.neuropharm.2025.110434. @inspiremsca.bsky.social

A blood marker may help separate 2 conditions that can look very similar. A new paper in 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 found PDGF-BB differed between major depressive disorder and bipolar depression during acute episodes, with longitudinal changes also seen in bipolar disorder. 📰 buff.ly/sS6H7Ej
In this study, serum platelet-derived growth factor BB (PDGF-BB) and plasma thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) were quantified by ELISA in 63 patients with MDD, 43 patients with BD, and 61 healthy controls.

This short communication is already out! PDGF-BB could serve as a diagnostic biomarker for distinguishing MDD from BD during acute states, while accounting for clinical confounders @inspiremsca.bsky.social
