Η Νυχτερινή Περίπολος του Ρέμπραντ στην πραγματικότητα είναι ένα ομαδικό πορτρέτο του λόχου μιας πολιτοφυλακής που παραγγέλθηκε στο ζωγράφο.Ο Ρέμπραντ δεν ακολουθεί το κλασικό τρόπο στησίματος ενός πορτρέτου αλλά χρησιμοποιεί κάθε είδους αντιθέσεις για να δημιουργήσει μια συναρπαστική σύνθεση .

Ρέμπραντ (1609-4/10/1669) Το έργο του Νυχτερινή περίπολος απεικονίζει ένα λόχο πολιτοφυλακής να βγαίνει για παρέλαση. Το ασήμαντο αυτό γεγονός ο Ρέμπραντ το μετατρέπει σε μια σύνθεση που σφύζει από ζωή. Τύμπανα χτυπούν, λόγχες υψώνονται, παιδιά και ζώα περιφέρονται ανάμεσα στους πολιτοφύλακες.

My wife and I returned yesterday from a trip to the UK. We flew into Bergen Norway, then took a cruise around the British Isles, making various stops in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and England, and ending up in London. Then we spent a few days in Oxford.
