For all those going apoplectic over Man City’s charges. What would be different now if that investment had been turned away and City hadn’t been allowed to break through the glass ceiling? For sure they’d likely be a mid-table team but what else would have changed for the better? #MCFC

Every day I’m reminded that history has lessons for us. History teaches us who Trump and Putin. The hope is that we learn from history and don’t repeat the same mistakes. And yet we do. History is displaced by TikTok, by gaming, by social networks. Displacement could be our downfall.

Man City broke the rules to compete on a level playing field with the ‘red cartel’. They transformed the way the game is played. They developed the youth, the community, the facilities. They gave the EPL breathtaking football. They boosted EPL revenues. Let’s see what retribution looks like.

Manchester City spent the same on transfer fees as Manchester United whilst being a better run club which invested heavily into its community, and transformed the way the game is played. The EPL should be under review for discouraging investment and success and for protecting vested interests

Hard to comprehend the same species that produced great art, music and literature, that reached the moon, found cures for diseases, and achieved incredible sporting feats, also elevated its worst and unworthiest specimens into the positions of greatest power.

No one normal or law abiding wears balaclavas. Either pass a law banning them or legislate that they can only be hot pink.

Trump is cranking up. Every day brings new insanity, destruction, corruption, betrayal. The midterms won’t be the battleground, they’ll be confirmation that America is no longer a democracy.

Yesterday’s solar eclipse was a reminder of how small and insignificant we all are. If the people of Clacton won’t deal with Farage, the cosmos will.

Manchester at 53.48 degrees north is positioned about a third of the way up mainland Britain. Geographically, ‘Number 10 North’ is more like ‘Number 10 Midlands’. England now has two Number 10s.

Nige has skipped a lot of detail in his letter to the residents of Clacton. Instead they get a masterclass in gaslighting, telling them how they think and feel. A lot “us” and “we” from a man only in it for himself. The question is, will they be fooled again?

Boris Johnson infantilised and degraded almost everything in public life. He was a dreadful PM. But, if Russia had invaded Ukraine with any other political leader at the helm, the outcome would have been very different. How do you think each party leader would have responded? Who would do better?

It’s over for Trump if the Democrats prevail in the midterms. But he’s a corrupt, unhinged despot, and the GOP is morally bankrupt. The midterms could be the most important set of elections in my lifetime; and I’m old and I’m not even American. #midterms

The narrative is forming in front of our eyes. On the back of a failed assassination attempt in France, and the Russian “spear phishing” hack of his finances. The honour and decency of a man prepared to step back from politics to protect his family.

Farage mocks Starmer for accepting a gift of free glasses. Study his face. The self-righteousness. The sheer delight. Squeezing all the juice out of Starmer’s predicament. If ever someone deserved their fate…

Keir Starmer delivered the thing disaster capitalists hate the most, stability. They now smell blood. Expect ferocious attacks on Burnham and his legitimacy in an effort to precipitate a General Election. Labour mustn’t fall for it.

Talk less about net zero and talk more about energy security. Net zero has been misrepresented as an ambition we can’t afford. I’d like to hear a politician argue against a national energy security policy.

What was broken before 2016 that BrExit needed to fix? What was broken before 2024 that Trump needed to fix? I hope we’re never scratching our heads and asking this question about Keir Starmer in June 2026. Almost certainly history will treat him more kindly than we have done.

We all have our political hobby horses. My own is the near-extinction of responsible, quality journalism in this country and its negative impact on political discourse and public opinion. Social media propaganda has filled the void. Starmer experienced it but failed to act. It’s cost him his job.

I can hear Kemi Badenoch from here. “Different leader same broken promises”. “Different face same Labour, same excuses”. “A new leader carrying on the tradition of Labour U turns”. “Isn’t it true the honourable gentleman doesn’t know what he’s doing?”. It’s tough at the top.

Political miscalculation. Starmer should have let Burnham stand in Gorton. The resulting Green surge placed his premiership under 360 degree siege and amplified the far left’s criticisms of him. To defeat the forces of the far right requires a coalition of the left.

What did Keir Starmer ever do for us? It’s sad the media, and Starmer’s critics on the left and right, in such a short space of time, have convinced the public that he’s a failure. Ultimately though he’s lacked the strategic vision, communication and leadership to take the country with him.

Leave the guy alone! Our reflection and regret will begin the day he’s hounded out of office. Ask why the far right and foreign agitators, like Putin and Musk, are desperate for him to be gone. He’s got things wrong but we should value him as much as our European partners do, and give him more time.

Starmer was targeted by sex worker conspiracy straight from Putin's playbook
It was a conspiracy shared by a handful of social media accounts and ultimately ended up in Russian state media

“The sooner the better that Keir Starmer walks out of Downing Street... We want him to go. Everyone wants him to go. We can’t stand him actually… he’s not for the people.” Burnham walks past opportunity to appear magnanimous, statesmanlike, and to acknowledge Labour’s achievements.

Burnham will win the Makerfield by-election because the Greens haven’t shown up and Restore Britain have shown up. The left vote isn’t being split, the right vote is being split. Neither of these will necessarily hold true in a general election.

To Andy Burnham. If you’re going to mount a leadership challenge, wait until 2028. Don’t play loose and fast with a general election. Challenge Starmer to go faster, to be more ambitious, to communicate better, but throw your weight behind him. Teamwork and unity will deliver a second term.
