Reposted by Cressunforth | Claire Houck | Duck Prints Press @duckprintspress.com · 12/10/2026Our novelette THE ADVENTURE OF THE HIDDEN LANE by Max Jason Peterson (who also did the cover and illustrations!) comes out Nov 3! It's a new (queer) Sherlock Holmes story in classic Doyle style: a story by Watson to be opened long after his death. Blurb and more: duckprintspress.com/2026/10/12/c... 01814

Cress @cress221.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I liked “descendant of Sherlock Holmes” but I don’t like her solving love mysteries. Unless it’s like those Harley Quin & Mr Satterwhite mysteries by Agatha Christie. 000

Cress @cress221.bsky.social · 26/09/2026So he was possibly considering letting women join later meetings, but this didn’t happen, and the Irregular narrating this tale in 1964 says he’s happy about it! Fucking dick. BSI didn’t let women in until the 1990s. Toxic fandom. 001
Cress @cress221.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I have a book with an article from 1964 where an Irregular describes the origin of the club. Christopher Morley publishes a puzzle for fans to solve to be a member, and several women qualify but he doesn’t invite them to the meeting. He sends invites saying first meeting will be stag. 100
Cress @cress221.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I’d argue that the real toxic fandom was the Baker Street Irregulars excluding women for decades and singing their stupid Aunt Clara song that they pretended was about Irene Adler. Toxic men 100
Cress @cress221.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Then he finally revived Holmes in Empty House. All of this was his choice and his own pace. He even did Holmes plays again, Speckled Band and Crown Diamond. 100
Cress @cress221.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I’d argue that Doyle got worse threats from suffragists when he made political remarks against them. I’m not sure if it was apocryphal that someone sent a mail bomb to him over suffrage. Doyle chose to write a Holmes play that was bad, then let William Gillette do it. Then he used Holmes for Hound 100
Cress @cress221.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I don’t think Doyle was bullied into reviving Holmes. He moved on and wrote other books for years. Traveled, built a new house, romanced Jean Leckie while his wife was dying, etc. He got nasty letters sure but he voluntarily came back to Holmes when he wanted to. 100
Cress @cress221.bsky.social · 25/09/2026He’s always dismissing himself. No way is Watson insignificant. In fact, later the police will even say they want to be in his next book. 010

Cress @cress221.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I guess shows like "Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century" would be considered a sequel series. Elementary would be a reboot. And then I think a reimagining would be like Miss Sherlock or that web series "The Adventures of Jamie Watson and Sherlock Holmes." lezwatchtv.com/show/the-adv...lezwatchtv.comThe Adventures of Jamie Watson (and Sherlock Holmes) – LezWatch.TVThe Adventures of Jamie Watson (and Sherlock Holmes) is a Web Series that has at least one queer character and airs onYouTube – A Gender flipped Sherlock Holmes. 010
Cress @cress221.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I liked it and enjoyed how they simplified Holmes's methods with his new phrase "eyes and brains" to let kids see how he solves things. 010
Cress @cress221.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I always thought the Victorian-period adaptations are retellings. Stories where Holmes is frozen and brought to the future to solve modern crimes are like a continuation of past character history. That's different from a reboot like Elementary where he only exists in modern times, not the past. 110
