iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Another aspect is the layer where I asked the AI to generate a commentary about it's own consumption. It turned in something that vacillated wildly in tone. No real surprise there, but I came to appreciate the voicing. It complements the ambiguity I hope to achieve in the work.

It reminded me of the 1933 King Kong, how the fur moves. Someone once pointed out that—because it's stop motion—the fur bristles in strange and beautiful ways because of the animators, it's a record of their fingerprints in the fur. All that mess is the human record of the conversation...

Initially, I was frustrated with using so many miscellaneous materials: giant Duralar sheets, oil pens, stencils, airbrush, archival tapes and adhesives etc. It was very messy and I'd lose my mind every time a pen bled all over. But quickly I learned to appreciate it as the human response...

A Small Plot of Land #1 preview

The first piece examines data center water consumption, and the second piece illustrates carbon footprint of AI training. Each one is built as if it a giant presentation in some hellish boardroom. Here is a short video of #1. www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0G-...

A couple of plein air paintings done over Thanksgiving week in the high desert. Oils on clayboard. I can see how plein air painting can become the only thing that some people do.

The whole world of printing: monotypes, prontoplates, lithographs, etching, etc, has been calling to me for a while. I've made one copperplate etching and a handfull of lino cuts. I made myself a promise to take some kind of class in summer. I look forward to seeing more of yours!

The Second Angriest Dog in the World” Oil on panel 24”x36”

An oil painting depicting a worried woman on the right, while behind her the same scene—a woman standing in a desert landscape next to a large succulent—is shown in two angles overlaid on each other. The more stable color version is distorted, and haunted by the ghostly version in correct perspective. The tell tale black lodge herringbone floor creeps in from the bottom left while in the distance a shaky pencil drawn shack release curly smoke from the chimney.

Seemed like even his own band was having a hard time with him. I went home telling my friends “guys, you gotta listen to Axxes and Ace!” I think about that show a lot. Now that I know more of his work I wish I could go back and really study it. I know I missed important things in that performance.

Did I ever tell you I saw Jason Molina play once? He opened for the Avett Bros at a mid sized venue. I was more excited to see him and talked him up so much to my friends before the show, and he was awful. Probably loaded, out of tune (a stretch I know!)…

I've been trying to find my way back to art as therapeutic expression, not just an intellectual one. Friedl Dicker-Brandeis is the mother of art therapy, so I thought I'd do a portrait of her. First an expressive line study- she often had students try that- then develop a painting on top. 1 hr in...
