Why does Japan have such a backwards approach to passwords? Globally it’s accepted to be as complex as possible but here they limit character amounts and don’t allow special characters. I don’t trust my data being kept secret in Japan at all. What is the actual restriction? Database structures?

Everyone has anecdotes, because that’s what lives are. Everyone would like more money but not everyone aspires to great wealth. That sweeping segment of middle class, living within their means, in the only place in the world that has become home. Individuals. Families. Roots. All that humanity.

Over the past few months I’ve been learning to play the drums casually on an e-kit. It’s slowly turned me into Journey and Fleetwood Mac fan. I had never really listened to them much before. Both were way ahead of their time and are fun to play

Last night our beloved cat Leo passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. He was only 6 years old and his passing is total shock to the family. He was a very kind, well natured cat that we’ll all terribly miss around the house.

In general I’m happy living in Japan. But every few years I go through a period where everything about this country irritates me. I’m going through one of those periods

Recently I felt like giving up on some difficult Japanese grammar points. I kept screwing them up. until I decided to use Claude to teach me them. I’m seeing good progress using AI to learn Japanese.

Update on Momi, the cat that I rescued after being hit by a car in front of me. We are going to keep her. As you can see she has settled down to bean-bag life pretty well. She gets on well with the other two cats too #cats

If I could use one word to describe the thing that makes me inefficient at work, it would be ‘Microsoft’. The amount of time wasted trying to do simple things is astronomical.

He spent his life in prison for something he didn’t do, ¥40 million is nowhere near enough. What about lost earnings? If he had worked a ¥3m a year job that’s a minimum of ¥120m of lost earnings. You can’t buy a house for ¥40m these days.

It’s been quite a few years since I gave up photography after a lot of burnout. I’m slowly starting to feel the pull back into it. I need a creative outlet. Here’s a small selection of some of the pics I took that I like

A Japanese girl posing for a hair and makeup shoot. She is twirling her hair with one hand

Taken in Shinjuku’s art installation of a bright yellow eye. A man it walking past and his head is perfectly in the centre of the eye

A dusk shot overlooking a Tokyo harbour. The sky is a gradient from blue, yellow and then shifting to purple at the bottom. Two couples look at the sunset in silhouette

The shinjuku skyline of buildings with Mount Fuji in the background. The sky is bright red

The only thing I hate about Japan is that the Japanese never protect their green spaces. Left is the park near my house in March. Right is what happened today. So fucking angry. #nagareyama #japan
