After a suggestion from Aaron to swap the TX and RX lines with DuPont wires, bingo! We have the ODT prompt showing on the terminal! I have a working PDP-11

All in a timely manner as I finished this adaptor the replacement capacitors arrived, few minutes to replace and good as new!

Several stickers on my BA23 saying not to short the cab kit to the BA23 chassis I decided now was a good enough time to try something serial in Fusion 360 and try to make a 3d printed adaptor to hold it in place and stop it from shorting after several hours (and swearing) I had an adaptor in my hand

After some trial and error with configurations all seems to work, we got ODT to display and even got the first part of UNIX to load (we only had 2.11BSD to hand which can't load on a /23Plus, but still showed it was executing code as expected)

This happened whilst it was switched off and just plugged into mains, so should just be a fairly simple cap on the mains side, opening up the power supply, yup! 2 blown rifa capacitors (typical) on the board that just appears to accept the AC, steps it down and sends it off to the front panel switch

Soooo... Wednesday I took delivery of a minimal PDP-11/23Plus CPU with a barebones BA23 case Absolutely gobsmacked me as I never thought I'd ever own an actual PDP-11 (for those who don't know, the machine that brought you UNIX and the C programming language) #vintagecomputing #dec #pdp11
