I would have been intrigued to see how he would have done if he would have taken over at Pitt under the current NIL and portal setup. if he's got the money to spend, he's done a good job getting impactful transfers. think he did that with this group this year

I think his teams left a lot to be desired tactically, at least on offense. they were a pretty brutal watch most of my time on the beat unless you had someone like Champagnie who could just make plays

whenever he's done at Pitt, a smart network out there will sign Jeff Capel to work in studio or on games. I think he'd instantly become one of the best analysts in the sport

we had our occasional differences when I covered him (as any coach and beat writer should), but I always had a ton of respect for Jeff Capel. good to see a coach out there talking like this

this column, which argues that Sophie Cunningham isn't a good enough player to justify everything that comes with having her on your team, has upset a lot of the same folks who made the same point to justify Colin Kaepernick getting blackballed from the NFL
nytimes.com
Fever should part with Sophie Cunningham. She’s too turbulent to be paired with Caitlin Clark
If the Fever ever want to go back to being a basketball team, Cunningham — who was largely responsible for this year's circus — has to go.

there's about a 5% chance Poch will be around for 2030, but this is about as good as I've felt about the USMNT's future in a while. the kids are alright

though there would be something incredibly funny about Louisville having two starting QBs in the NFL and Tyler Shough being the liberal one

this probably gives away that I never played football and lack the requisite toughness/pride, but unless it's a do-or-die conversion or you're close to the end zone, fighting for extra yardage is for suckers feel like you end up getting the ball punched out at least 40% of the time you do it

I doubt this will happen, but if Colorado goes 0-fer the rest of the season, Deion will have almost the exact same win percentage at CU as his predecessor, Karl Dorrell

McDaniel*. had a different coach on my mind since they're playing Seattle (even though his name's Macdonald)

Craig Meyer @craigmeyer.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
as overhyped as I think he's been most of his career, I thought he was due for a big year with McDonald as OC. but it's been brutal

I'll never forgive the analytics dorks and tape-eaters who tried to convince us that Justin Herbert was a top-five QB

I've been more impressed this season with most of the receiving votes teams than a lot of inclusions in the back half of the top 25

Pat Narduzzi's a former college linebacker who grew up in Youngstown, Ohio (and who I've seen on a squat rack). I wouldn't want to cross that man, either

despite winning on the road, Kentucky got booted from the AP poll because Pat Narduzzi shamed voters on national TV. a true patriot

I'm sure it's because of money, but is there a reason that every primetime ESPN college football game, the one with Fowler and Herbstreit on the broadcast, kicks off at least 20 minutes after the announced start time?

about to be the second time in three seasons Jeff Brohm wastes an explosive offense with a potential NFL QB because of a Swiss cheese-ass defense

don't want to speak for all SZD subscribers, but I appreciate y'all not taking that dirty money. also makes it that much more infuriating that obscenely wealthy former pro athletes are doing it

one of the reasons I enjoyed covering Pitt so much is that their fan base, by and large, was extremely cool. y'all deserve so much better than this kind of rotten luck. they were setting up to be a playoff team this season

it's been such a fun Friday getting to watch college football being played inside one of the state-of-the-art architectural marvels of the sport. I'm talking, of course, about Montana State and Idaho in the Kibbie Dome

though I'm gonna warn you ahead of time, Pitt fans: if you're 9-1 and in the top 10 heading into that Louisville game, you're gonna lose and then watch Jeff Brohm lose by two touchdowns against a 5-6 Kentucky team a week later

of course, there's no question about the Pitt football coach who was the best cultural fit for the school, the city and the region
040
Craig Meyer @craigmeyer.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
in addition to providing some much-needed stability at a crucial time, I also think Pat Narduzzi is the second-best cultural fit that Pitt has ever had as their coach
270
Craig Meyer @craigmeyer.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I understand basically every frustration Pitt fans have with Pat Narduzzi, but that dude wins 8+ games more often than not, has his teams play with a distinct identity, oversees excellent player development and does it all with a bottom-third NIL budget in the ACC

Stella's just prime for discourse on so many fronts. her music sucks and sounds AI generated. she's not a particularly good singer. she has seemingly ripped off several prominent songs. and she's a country singer despite being a Groupon heiress who grew up in the wildly rich Chicago suburbs

randomly thought about this today, but it's very funny that one of the players in Deion Sanders' first meeting with Colorado, where he basically told all the guys they suck and that they were getting replaced with his Louis Vuitton luggage, was future top-10 NFL Draft pick Jordyn Tyson

I think some of the blowback to the song is kinda weird. is it a bit strange that it's been on top of the charts *this* long? sure. but it's a really catchy tune. it's not like Stella Lefty, whose song is boring, generic and ripped-off, and who came out of basically nowhere to suddenly be famous

the idea that blue-collar families wouldn't benefit from universal child care is hilarious even for stay-at-home parents, it would give them the opportunity to work if they wanted to or just get all the shit done that you can't when you're caring for your kid at home what an insane take

it's quite possible the Eagles have the two worst coaches to have won a Super Bowl in the past 40 years. not sure who else would be up for that honor. Brian Billick? Gruden? Gary Kubiak? Switzer? Ditka?
