1. This is the cutest thing ever 2. I’ve met the 2 mayors of my hometown who’ve served in my lifetime (lol crazy). The first one served for 25 years then died in 2003 and the other has served since. 3. The current mayor in Charlottesville has no idea who I am (maybe he would recognize my name).

I’ve slept in windowless bedrooms for 7 out of the last 11 years, and lots of the responses here are wild to me. In fact, my current building wouldn’t be possible for residential without having windowless bedrooms. And it was built in the 90s!

It’s actually too bad most local media outlets think routine meeting coverage is boring because you could have answers to things like this! In Charlottesville and Albemarle, the school boards discuss and vote on calendars, usually annually, at their meetings that no reporters attend nowadays.

New Fiscal Year, New Me! I’ve tried not to talk a lot about my soon-to-be-former job on social media, as I didn’t want to be mistaken as speaking for it, but my last day with the county is July 7! It’s also very weird to leave your job in the summer when so many people are out of the office.

E-Biked to my appointment at the hospital today and I’m not sure how y’all do this on the regular. I didn’t even bring my work bag with me on this ride 😅 Luckily I had a “practice” rain ride where it was drizzling and learned to put my hood under my helmet or it blows off.

I love Amtrak more than most people, but if my options to go see my family are a 16 hour train ride, a 7 hour drive, or a 3 or 4 hour flight including a layover, I know what I’m normally choosing (and I’ve done all three).

My walk to work is ~10 minutes and people would (and should) judge me if I drove. When I worked at the newspaper, I would regularly drive to places an 8-15 minute walk because crossing 29 or Rio felt crazy. But the few times I did walk places around 29, I probably had fewer bad car interactions!

In the last 5 days I’ve almost been hit in each of these crosswalks while drivers are making this movement. Today I swear the person made eye contact with me before I stepped out into the crosswalk, and last week the person hadn’t even left the slip lane yet when I started crossing High Street.

We did the cville weekly scavenger hunt and found all of the images except for one: this gosh darn cat. As a certified crazy cat lady, I’m appalled with myself, but also incredibly confused. I’ve never seen this cat downtown in my life. (There is another cat in a window on the mall, but it’s gray.)
