I rewatched Robbert Eggers' Nosferatu today, and it's like the perfekt movie. No hidden misogyny, proper responses to sexual assault, immaculate casting, the freaks are intelligent and compassionate and it has Willam Dafoe being his eccentric yet heartfelt self, per usual. I found it flattering that at the beginning of the ship & fandom, we all agreed that Bloodymary are quite aroace/ace coded, and that they have crazy amounts of parallels, which would make way for amazing hurt/comfort and character exploration. So now I'm wondering why most of the content I see, even if it seeks to do said character exploration, hard-dives straight into sloppy sex between them when things become intimate. It's almost like sex is the only kind of – or at least the deepest form of – intimacy that some people can imagine. Obviously I'm not a prude, and I like a snack of well-made kinky art, but why does it seem to become so rare to see them just hugging like their lives depend on it, and holding each other like the most precious, fragile thing in the world, for if he breaks, there's no one in the universe who understands them like him? Where's them looking at each other with tons of unconditional, non-objetifying love and beauty, because they're just incredulous that they're blessed by the other's presence? What happened to them talking about their woes, properly, taking all the time they need for the first time in their lives? Letting their mouths materialize the sorrows they'd been silently carrying forever and realizing how much it had been burdening them, and finally trusting someone enough to help carry the weight. I need both of them crying their eyes out, bathing each other in tears from sheer disbelief, grief and relief. We've not even broken the shell of what their dynamic is capable of and we're already unraveling the dead fandom resort of flanderizing & watering the ship down to two sex dolls. I know y'all's porn comes from the soul, but it sometimes tends to feel impersonal and a bit shallow for characters with such rich potential for emotional intimacy.."
