BIG NEWS! The CPSU's Melissa Donnelly has been appointed as Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, when Sally McManus finishes at the end of this month. We wish Melissa every success in her new role and thank her for her enormous contribution to the CPSU and our members.

The Coalition took a plan to slash 41,000 public sector jobs to the last election and were thrashed. According to Einstein, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results. Maybe Angus is smarter than Albert. 🤪 www.canberratimes.com.au/story/932135...

The only people who benefit from the current employment services system are the private, for-profit corporations.

Job system broken for workers, booming for private equity, report says
A new report argues Australia's employment services system is failing jobseekers, while filling the pockets of private equity firms and millionaires.

A new report into privatised employment services is a damning indictment of a system that blatantly rewards greedy corporations for treating job seekers as a commodity to be exploited. The Govt should stop outsourcing work and put employment service in public hands. Link in comments.

Bring. It. On. Australia’s scandal-ridden consulting firms could be broken up entirely or face massive fines, under long-awaited Treasury plans to clean up a sector still engulfed in claims of incompetence and dodgy auditing. Read more from the ABC. abc.net.au/.../post-kpm... #auspol2026

Despite scandals, resignations and serious ethical failures, KPMG still has a $1.3m Govt contract teaching ethics to senior public servants. Rather than lining the pockets of expensive consultants, the Govt should invest in public sector jobs and services. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/2026/06...

Privatisation has failed. Job seekers are sick of being lectured by flashy ‘entrepreneurs’ who are milking the government for hundreds of millions of dollars. The Government's recent announcement is welcome, but progress must not stop here. Read more: www.proudtobepublic.org.au/news-blog/em...

Hundreds of ABC union members walking off the job on Wednesday morning. They are taking 24-hour strike action for the first time in 20 years. They're deadly serious about fighting for a fair agreement that protects their conditions, and has a pay rise that won't leave them worse off.

Union members at the ABC are walking off the job today for 24 hours from 11am to protest a low pay offer which would leave them behind financially at time when the price of everything is going up. ABC staff provide a vital service, they deserve decent pay. #auspol2026 #AusUnions #ourABC

Did you know that a private sector debt collection company used by the ATO: a) mistreats vulnerable taxpayers and welfare recipients b) exploits its own staff through low pay and poor training c) and - cherry on top - pays zero corporate tax. Yet the govt continues to pay them millions of dollars.
