More public housing means more affordable housing and less pressure on the private rental market.

In the Hawke era, around 1 in 10 new homes built were public housing. Today it's closer to 1 in 50. We need to start building again.

Nearly 70% of renters hold back from asking for repairs because they're worried about rent increases or eviction. No one should have to choose between a safe home and keeping a roof over their head.

While Australians worry about the next power bill, gas corporations are having a bumper year. A global conflict shouldn't be a jackpot for billion-dollar companies. This is why we proposed a 25% tax on gas exports. Our gas belongs to Australians; it's only right we get a fair return.

A lot of people have opinions about domestic and family violence. What shouldn't be up for debate is support for people experiencing it. That's why union members fought for and won 10 days paid family and domestic violence leave. www.australianunions.org.au/factsheet/fa...

"I support what Trump's done." That's what Pauline Hanson said about US action in Iran. Now fuel prices are climbing, and economists are warning the escalating conflict could push inflation higher and increase the likelihood of another interest rate hike.

Another union member win! Aldi will pay $55 million to thousands of current and former workers following the SDA's underpayments case. This outcome sends a simple message: if you're working, you should be getting paid. Every minute. When workers stand together, they get results. ✊

If AI can influence hiring, promotions, rostering or redundancies, workers have a right to know how those decisions are being made and to challenge them when they're wrong. Technology should work for people, not make decisions about them behind closed doors.

From 1 July 2026, your super has to be paid at the same time as your wages. That means no more waiting to see if it’s been paid, and it’s much easier to spot if something’s missing. It also means your money starts growing sooner, which can make a real difference to your balance over time.

Anyone else sick of whingers like Hughesy who refuse to understand that CGT and negative gearing reforms are all about bringing back the fair go when it comes to home ownership? Especially for young workers who've been locked out of that opportunity for too long.

A 10% fall in house prices would take affordability back to 2023 levels. So let's stop the fricking scare campaigns that the CGT changes will destroy the economy. They are the start of a very long road to recovery www.theguardian.com/business/gro...
Twenty-six years ago, the average dwelling price in Australia was equal to nine years and four months’ worth of per-capita household disposable income. In the first three months of this year, the average dwelling price of $1.11m was equivalent to 17 years and four months of current average household disposable income.

If dwelling prices were 10% lower, they would be equal to 15 years and seven months – or where it was three years ago:

Every time unions win a pay rise for workers, we hear "it will push up inflation", and every time it's proved wrong. When workers win a minimum wage rise, it makes a massive difference to their lives; it also means more money is spent in local shops and businesses.

Workers are carrying the load while the system lets wealth run wild. The issue isn’t people, it’s policy. This Budget should focus on fixing outdated systems that favour wealth over work. That means fairer tax settings and housing reform so workers and first home buyers aren’t left behind.

Tomorrow’s Budget is a test on housing. Will it give first-home buyers a real chance to buy a home? In addition to tax reform, we are calling for more housing to be built. Time to back modular builds and invest in social housing.
