Honestly, Underground isn't too long to wait (only the 2nd gym). It's if you don't plan to use the non-Sinnoh dex Pokemon from the Underground that your choice becomes Ponyta or... not having a Fire type.

Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate is a funny game because alongside the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors characters they add in some Ninja Gaiden characters like Ryu Hayabusa. So you get to sit there & watch real life historical warlord Oda Nobunaga get wrecked by an Izuna Drop.

Wii U VC was perfect for showing it on a single screen & the input of the joycons cover the lost ground from not having the Gamepad. It also shows that Nintendo already has the emulator built basically (NSO basically uses the same emulators as VC for other consoles, just modified over time)

Tried out Big Hops after beating Toem 2 & seeing the mask (game good btw). I’m vibing with it so far early on. Feels good to control and runs good on Steam Deck, even docked at 1080p!

Sometimes there is a risk of ruining the original artistic intent with draw distance stuff, lighting, etc (Silent Hill Collection's fog come to mind, that garish 3D rendering in Gen1Recomp too) but a lot of what is offered also blatantly enhances a game by removing limits that got in the way before.

Options are great and it's neat that you can still go old-school if you want (I downsample my N64/PS1 games as a middle ground) but you'll also never convince me that Ocarina of Time running at 20fps or Jungle Joyride turning Sonic Unleashed into a slideshow were part of their grand artistic vision.

Plus, enhancements allow a game to finally overcome technical hurdles that even the devs hated dealing with (PS1 wobbling, etc). The ports also (when done by hand) typically aim for accuracy with the enhancements still. It's the same optional upgrades emulators have done for years but more flexible.

AI sucks but you seem to be implying that the point of going back to retro games is not to appreciate the design of the game as a whole but to simply play a game that runs badly. Low frame rates actually hurt my eyes so having an option to remove that limit doesn't miss the point at all.
