Here's the response of Physicians for a National Health Program to the US Senate Finance Committee. Read why they are urging Congress to create a single-payer system that will provide healthcare to all, "where insurance companies, along with their 15-20% overhead, are obsolete." @pnhp.bsky.social

I didn't think it was possible to spin this. But Daniel Dale, CNN's Fact Checker, did. Shameful that Dale thinks Americans need to be "steeped in TrumpRallySpeak to know what he was saying." How do we get ourselves "steeped"? Why did Trump name Los Angeles & San Diego & not Miami & Palm Beach?

CDC's HICPAC could have standardized respirators in healthcare, which would have given COVID-19, measles & other pathogens less chance to spread among patients, providers, visitors. It was a terrible choice, with only Lisa Baum showing leadership @nationalnurses.bsky.social and dissenting.

Hopefully Oregon will succeed where California failed. When it does, maybe California will see its folly & follow Oregon's lead. Why is single-payer healthcare still a "slogan" in the US but a daily reality in other wealthy countries? Why doesn't the US provide healthcare as a human right?

PMC COVlD Update, Sep 21, 2026 (US) 🔥13th COVlD wave 🔥40 states/territories with outbreaks (see Alt text) 🔥3.8 million estimated weekly infections 🔥Outbreaks in NYC 🔥Extremely high levels on the Big Island of HI Mask up and get boosted. 🧵THREAD (1/4)
The US has at least 34 states and territories with COVlD outbreaks. These include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Hawai'i, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. Levels on the Big Island of Hawai’i are particularly high. Note also, the NYC area is seeing outbreaks.

There are likely outbreaks in additional states. The summary statistic of 40 only includes counties with observed data, rather than estimated data. For example, Idaho, Louisiana, Maryland, and Tennessee likely have outbreaks, but monitoring is poor.
