Here's how Public Health Scotland now defines Covid. Seasonal as in every-season Covid, which unusually and unexpectedly skipped a wave this spring. That's surely what they must mean!
Seasonal Respiratory Pathogens or Systems with Unexpected or Unusual Seasonal Activity
further intelligence and supporting data are publishe din this section for those respiratory pathogens showing changes in activity levels that could trigger public health action or for levels at or above moderate activity in laboratory data. Statistically significant changes in CARI surveillance over the fourt-week reporting period compared to the four-weeks prior will also be highlighted.
During the reporting period 12 May to 8 June (ISO weeks 20-23) the following pathogens and/or surveillance systems showed activity of potential public health importance with further details provided below:
Covid-19, Human metapneumovirus (hMPV), Parainfluenza

From @catinthehat.bsky.social below. Covid levels in Scotland higher than any other time in 2025 right now, but so far still far less than in summer 2024.
Covid Wastewater Surveillance - Scotland's Covid wastewater signal has been steadily rising since March and is now at the highest point so far this year. (I'd love to share the Covid wastewater data for England with you too but the budget for that programme was axed in 2022). Public health Scotland graph showing a steep drop in Covid rate in January 2024, steady low levels late January to late March and then a steady rise.

Shockingly, the govt. is proposing to revive Tory plans to let the police ban wearing masks at protests. Please sign this petition by @libertyhq.bsky.social today: action.libertyhumanrights.org.uk/page/167409/... Note this would apply to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, not 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, but anyone can and should sign.

Lockdown blamed for developmental delays in children that were tiny babies at the time. 😠 In fact, Scottish data shows percentage of children age 27-30 months in 2022/23 with developmental concerns was very marginally higher than in 2013/14.
Percentage of children with any developmental concern recorded at 27-30 month review, 'No concern' actively recorded for every developmental domain, and a mixture of 'No concern' and missing informtion, Scotland, 2013/14 to 2022/23.

Another Guardian article where a headteacher blames lock-downs in 2020/21 for record numbers of pupils with special educational needs. Of course, no mention of the impacts that Covid can have. Nor of other obvious reasons (underfunded schools, more destitution, etc). 😬
Copy of headline: Send crisis: A system a breaking point, "The worst it's ever been": teachers decry Send crisis in England's schools - Staff nd parents share their experience as number of pupils with special educational needs spirals. Send provision in 'vicious downward spiral', says former children's commissioner

Giving everybody access to a healthy diet would make a big difference to public health. Nonetheless concerning to see @theguardian.com uncritically report "findings" from report that appears to attribute 100% of chronic illness, including the steep increase "post-pandemic" (🤦‍♀️) to diet.
Screenshot of a Guardian article showing portions of chips and chicken nuggets. Article title: "UK's unhealthy food habits cost £268bn a year, report finds" Exclusive Food Farming and Countryside Commission added up cost to NHS and economy of diet-linked disease.
