These worms feed on bacteria that live directly off minerals released by the vents (a process known as chemosynthesis). The worms also host a population of symbiotic bacteria that may supply the worm with additional nutrients. Hydrothermal vents are found along geologically active zones deep underwater. The vents release superheated water and dense mineral deposits, forming huge towers that support a wide variety of fauna.

there were supposed to be power in those words,
but i lost that to my own apathy,

i’ve been interested in nuclear power lately,
it’s like we forgot that energy is supposed to be dangerous,
and we were lucky to eat it all so fast without choking.

i said i would cut my hair off
and burn it all for fire fuel,

it won't be too long now,
my soul should catch fire soon, watch me work.

fistfuls of loose strands go into my ribcage,
i opened myself up when you weren’t looking,

flicking an empty labelless lighter, hoping for a light,
there should always be something left when you ask.

but i have nothing left in me.
if i have to guess then that becomes gospel

my foot is caught in a cattle guard on a lonely gravel ground,
headlights in the distance grow brighter and brighter,

nothing will ever slow down,
sit back, unwind, and calm itself for a moment,

all i have is vague calories and empty words
i can’t keep my soul fed anymore.

ah i think i get it now,
i never had to be human to succeed in this world.

i wish i could live like you reading this,
but im a creature with pincer jaws

im looking for spinal cords
to bite into and attach myself.

where we leave a single set of footprints
i burrowed under your flesh.
