A US-born citizen was walking near Chicago in January. ICE snatched him off the street, handcuffed him, threw into a van. His wallet, which contained his ID, was confiscated. He was detained for 10 hours before being released without a record of what occurred. immigrantjustice.org/sites/defaul...

"Julio Noriega is 54 years old, was born in Chicago, and is a U.S. citizen.

On January 31, 2025, he was walking near the corner of Cermak Road and Harlem Avenue in Berwyn, Illinois, handing out his resume to local businesses.

As he walked out of a Jiffy Lube, he was approached by ICE officers who grabbed and handcuffed him and put him into a van, without an opportunity to explain his citizenship.

The officers drove Julio and others around for more than an hour before bringing him to an ICE processing center, where he remained, still handcuffed, for several more hours.

All the while, Julio had a wallet containing identification that ICE had confiscated.

The officers never showed Julio a warrant, and they did not ask him any questions to ascertain whether he was a noncitizen or a flight risk.

After about 10 hours, ICE officers reviewed the contents of Julio’s
wallet, realized he was a U.S. citizen, and released him with no money and no paperwork."

Figured I would put this out there. TransGENIC mice are NOT TransGENDER mice. TransGENIC refers to an organism or cell whose genome has been genetically altered. We use them to model human diseases & develop new treatments. This is yet another attempt to push anti-trans & anti-science rhetoric.

You ought to know Janice Burgess, the creator of The Backyardigans. She was also an executive at Nickelodeon where she oversaw the development of Little Bill and Blue's Clues and later served as a writer, story editor, & creative consultant on the revival of Winx Club. #BlackHistoryMonth

Janice Burgess (1952-2024) loved musicals and playing outside in her backyard as a child. She also loved art and wanted to be an art historian. What she didn’t like, however, was the upper-class society who made up the art culture, so she ventured into another career. Burgess got a position at a WQED-TV, a PBS member station in Pittsburgh and later joined the Children’s Television Workshop (now Sesame Workshop) in various managerial positions on shows like 3-2-1 Contact and Ghostwriter, the latter of which she served as a project manager. This position caught the eyes of Nickelodeon. Under the Nick Jr. division, Burgess was responsible for developing various programs for the block. Among the shows she helped develop are Gullah Gullah Island, Allegra’s Window, Little Bill, Blue’s Clues, and Bubble Guppies.

During a development session at Nick Jr., Burgess was asked to create a series for the block. Her idea, inspired by her fond childhood memories of playing in her backyard, was about a group of young friends who had fun pretending to go on adventures outside while singing and dancing. The series, Me and My Friends, was initially a live-action series with full-bodied animal costumes. It didn’t get picked up, but the network liked the idea and felt it would work better in animation. Burgess reworked the idea, now fully animated and renamed The Backyardigans, and created a charming series that was critically acclaimed and won numerous accolades and awards, including a Daytime Emmy, and continues to entertain fans to this day.

After The Backyardigans wrapped up, Nickelodeon, Burgess and her crew shifted over to another series that she didn’t expect to be a part of. Nickelodeon became a bought a minor interest in Italian comic publisher Rainbow S.p.A., owners of the Winx Club franchise, and became in charge of a revival of the animated series. With production the series split between Rainbow In Italy and Nickelodoen Animation Studios in the United States, Nick would be in charge of the overall production with Burgess serving as a story editor and creative director of the revival until she left Nickelodeon in 2014.
