Sometimes my computer makes a boop noise to indicate the button isn't going to work and every time I immediately turn that noise into a musical instrument

so it is hard for me to view others taking it into their own hands as anything but a misunderstanding and disrespect of the profession. What parents want their individual kids to read is their job as parents and not the business of librarians of any type. They can censor, we do not.

so to me who should decide is the same answer is who should decide what diseases are and what medicines we should take: groups of experts who have been trained, observed, and tested these things for years. And no one else. lol

one of the things we are taught in library school is that the library is a living organism. It must constantly be curated, adapted, and evaluated for the needs and use of their patrons. It is not simply a place where books sit

Lana @coughdrop01.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
school librarians do! those trained specifically in curation. if its a public library the question is then not should we include it (because yes always) but what section. If a parent takes issue then they can parent literally only their child full stop

Most of the time when people get up in arms about things in school libraries its because theyre imposing their beliefs on every student
110
Lana @coughdrop01.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
and idk review journals for each specific library demographic etc etc. It is very rare that a book ends up inappropriately somewhere because many eyes have seen it and vetted it.
110
Lana @coughdrop01.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
it isnt usually one to one because there are many libraries buying books and many models to work with and also there are publishers who advertise specifically to each specific library demographic.

Lana @coughdrop01.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
I dont know if its necessarily distracting if your aim is I really want a student to read more which sometimes it is. School library has to have the means to both provide research materials and stuff that they might just want to read.
010
Lana @coughdrop01.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
you very much should and the opinion should be to trust the librarians who are trained to both choose books developmentally appropriate for their age groups and protect kids' freedom to read.

It's been a few weeks since I mailed chapter one so I feel like I can safely post process pics/excerpts from vol.1 of the '26 zine without thoroughly spoiling it. Thanks for experimenting with me~! Really thoroughly charmed by how encouraging everyone's been.
An excerpt from chapter one of THE VILE DEED: "When April comes, she brings her stick. Every house is opened, every square of linen beaten clean, every furrow dug. Meat fattens on winter's bone as brome grass swells to fill the meadow. Here is the time for the birds to flutter in their bowers, and for good animals to be led to each other, and for all seed to be laid. Let every window be opened. Let every sheet be turned. Let the daylight come back into the places that forgot it and lie about on the sills and on the floors like the great red banded tom I knew he, Naius, loved.

Naturally, this is the customary time when men such as we must travel.

So it was that in that season, he and I put on our good clothes—he in his robe and fine scapular too care-fully made for walking in, and I with the sword I was told his brother had wished on his deathbed would be mine—, and set off on horses gifted to the abbot with the intention that he would hand them to down us for this very purpose.

Do you know how long the road to Domehrin is? No, neither do I. As any man in my place should do, I have studied the way to Hrotir and could stand before you and recite the twelve stations that sit between the abbey yard and the old heart of the world. I could name their keepers. I know which limbs must be gathered and where the fine delicate things that should be used for our appeal are expected to grow about them. But that place, Hrotir, is empty now. Burned and vacated. As all things grow back differently in the spring once they've been winter cut, now the nose of every horse in the world finds itself turned in a new direction. Now there is the new road, and it is unfamiliar to me.

But what of those holy places? Those way-markers? Those martyr stones? What of the stripling trees grown only to be shorn in kindly service to their shrines? What of the bones meant to witness us, and their faithful neighbors who would have dug them up out of good clay known to redden as it neared [...]"Photo of a linocut print block carved with a worm surrounding a sprig of vervain.Photo of a red wax seal stamped over a red string.Photo of the zine set: red envelopes, saddle stitched booklets closed with a red string and red wax seal, and a black and white print of a worm surrounding a spring of vervain.

You can take your used coffee grounds and mix them with 1/2 cup of white vinegar, it’s cheap & easy and it creates a huge mess that smells terrible
