Still remember quietly chuckling to myself at the opening scene of the first movie, as a guy two rows behind me furiously whispered “you would *never* send a cavalry charge into a forest!”

This list reminds me of the Team America: World Police main theme. Just reciting a completely made up list of things USAID was responsible for.

If the Greens had an ounce of political nous, they would strip Zack’s access to all his social media accounts. Nothing good has ever come from his tendency to post first and think later, if at all.

How can big companies with (presumably) healthy IT budgets be so bad at managing change?

All the while, at every turn, I’m being pushed towards using the APP, which doesn’t have any way of downloading transactions at all.

Paulo @costyp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
New website looks nice and modern and absolutely will not give me data in any format but pdf. First time- oh maybe I selected pdf by mistake. Second time- this is weird, maybe i’ll try html Third time- okay this isn’t me, this is their crappy coding and QA.

It’s at this stage I pour myself a large rum, straight up, because it’s been that sort of day. Whilst doing that, the barclays app finally deems itself ready to assist me logging in to the barclays website, so I can look for transactions and download data.

Paulo @costyp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Not the barclaycard app that I already have, no No NO! I have to download the barclays app, and try and register for that, fail, try again, register, go to activate the security function, which says “for security we will activate this feature sometime in the next 4 days, no we won’t tell you when."

Paulo @costyp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
So I head over to Barclays, try and remember my login details, fail, try and reset them, fail, try again, get to the point where I need to verify my details with, you guessed it, THE APP!

Paulo @costyp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
They almost seem reluctant to tell you about logging on to barclays to get your barclaycard data, they even say you can do “some, not all” functions there, but they don’t tell you details, because THE APP THE APP THE APP!

For months now, the tolerable, clanky website has been telling me that it is going to be replaced by the App, that can’t do the one thing I use the website for. This month- no choice. Old website gone, no more barclaycard online banking. Use the app or go to a branch (ha!) or the barclays site.

Paulo @costyp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Their mobile app doesn’t allow for downloading transaction data. Oh sure, you can download a statement pdf, but that’s it. I want raw uncut csv files, so I can query them into my finance spreadsheet.

Paulo @costyp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
I have a barclaycard. Each month I need to grab the transactions so I can jam them into a spreadsheet and work out household spending. The old website was tolerable for this- slow, clunky, and insistent that I should use their mobile app instead. This is important because…

Once again, I’m forced to confront the fact that major multibillion pound companies are just the worst at managing IT change. Today’s edition- Barclays.

@dandkuniverse.bsky.social Hey hey! Loving the podcast. Quick question from the “did we just discover dark matter” episode. Why wouldn’t gamma rays hit the xenon nucleus, like WIMPs- they aren’t charged either?

Sorry for the dumb question, but why would this push up petrol prices? Is it that refineries create both from same crude, and if the market for diesel contracts, they refine less crude, reducing supply of petrol?

Wouldn’t we be better served by a national water grid? You’d start seeing the benefit sooner as it could be brought in in phases. Trouble is, it is reliant on water companies working together for a common good, instead of their own self interest.

This story is a perfect example of how broken reporting of the mobs roaming Britain's streets now is - and the political response. What would have been the appropriate response if this hadn't been a sports team? Trash the hotel? Force them out into the street? What about other people staying there?

Absolutely awful, seeing that wanker of a reform councillor smugly saying that “these ones are alright, they’ll be going home soon.” Journalism in this country is broken.

James Orr, most recently known for being featured in a Channel 4 exposé into Reform’s foreign funding, is also a Cambridge assistant professor. I look forward to the flood of articles about him from the Times, Telegraph etc.
