just felt like writing a few blurbs on certain personality facets for the trio. for funsies. hehe. going back to sleep now 😴

Satsuki's emotional intelligence is quite high--she has a knack for gleaning implicit meaning from others' words and behaviours, though she struggles to handle this information with as much elegance as she would like. Still, despite her anxieties and resulting social clumsiness, her insight is often spot-on; her intuition rarely leads her astray, and her skill in seeing through to the truth of things is second to none. She often frustrates at the lack of honesty from those closest to her, interpreting it as a lack of trust, further feeding into her persistent self-doubt.

In an effort to hide his loneliness, Evan adopted a mask of arrogance at a young age--one that, now, he struggles to separate from his true nature. Those who pay attention, however, will see his real personality shine through in the moments when it counts. He may hold a high opinion of himself, but he doesn't put down others; in fact, mistreatment in this vein greatly irritates him, and he will go out of his way to defend the honour of those targeted with derision, especially in the case of those he cares about.

Kai chases control and destruction in equal measure, desperately seeking release, in any form he can find, from an incessant inner turmoil. He often feels overly responsible for those around him, while simultaneously struggling to believe he's capable, or deserving, of having any power at all. He operates largely based on deep-seated guilt and fear, leading him to make rash decisions that alleviate these feelings in the short-term, but do little to improve his overall wellbeing--something that he has difficulty caring much about.

🥺🩷💛🩶 got impatient and wanted to see the RR trio lineup with the new satsuki... i was a little worried she'd stick out, since she's a few months more recent, but i think so far she looks consistent enough! phew... (though, she's too tall. last time she was too short, LOL)

The main trio of Ruby Reaper lined up. The new Satsuki is on the left. She's just lines right now, but she'll have colour... eventually.

Concept sketch of Satsuki's new look/outfit. She wears a pink track jacket over a black sports bra, with her usual white denim shorts, and pink & white sneakers. The back of her jacket is detailed as having cartoony angel wings. She's also still wearing her usual black string choker tied into a bow. She has a couple more earrings in her visible ear now, too. another little RR excerpt... sharing the fact about satsuki's breakdown made me want to write a short exchange about it. this would take place not long after it happened... (satsuki would be about 17 here, kai, about 20) 🥹🩷🩶

(Kai knocks on the door to Satsuki's bedroom. After a few seconds of no answer, he cracks the door open. He finds her hugging her knees on her bed, in the corner furthest away from the door.)

Kai: "... Hey..."

Satsuki: "..."

Kai: "... I made dinner."

Satsuki: "..."

Kai: "... Are you gonna come out?"

Satsuki: "..."

Kai: "... I'll make a plate for you--"

Satsuki: "If I don't leave, it's not real..."

Kai: "?"

Satsuki: "... If I stay in my room, nothing is real... None of this is real..."

(Kai wears a pained, worried expression on his face.)

Kai: "... Satsuki..."

(Satsuki buries her face further into her knees, completely hiding it.)

Satsuki: "... It's not real... It's not real..."

(Kai slowly makes his way over to her bed and sits adjacent to her. He reaches his hand out towards her shoulder, but hesitates, letting it hang in the air between them, before dropping it back to his side in resignation.)

Kai: "... Come on, you need to eat something..."

Satsuki: "Kai..."

(Satsuki raises her head up. Tears are silently streaming down her face.)

Satsuki: "... Why does this always happen to us? Why us, Kai...?"

(Kai finds the backs of his own eyes prickling, but holds it in. For her sake. He lets out a wry snort and looks away from her.)

Kai: "... Dunno. Feels like we're cursed, doesn't it? Our whole family."

(Satsuki doesn't respond, staring blankly at her bedsheets. Looking back at her, Kai forces a smile on his face--a complete betrayal of what's inside of him, as usual--and raises his hand once again, to gently ruffle her hair.)

Kai: "... I'll bring your dinner in here."

(Satsuki sniffles.)

Satsuki: "... Okay... Thanks..."

been a bit since i wrote a little RR scene... wanted to give this important moment between satsuki & evan some attention. 🥹💔

-- PAST, HIGH SCHOOL --

(Satsuki and Evan are walking home from school together. Kai is usually with them, but today, he had something he needed to attend to. The two don't often get time alone together; Satsuki is keenly aware of this, and though her heart feels like it's going to leap out of her chest, she gathers every ounce of her courage, and runs forward. She turns around to face Evan, stopping him. He looks at her quizzically.)

Evan: Satsuki?

Satsuki: U-Um... E-Evan, I...

(Her bravery falters, but she pushes on.)

Satsuki: I... I h-have to... tell you... something... um... I...

(She's looking at the ground, gripping the hem of her shirt; as a result, she doesn't notice the understanding and weariness dawn on Evan's face.)

Satsuki: I...!! I really--

Evan: You like me. I know.

(Satsuki freezes, not daring to take even a breath. The heat in her cheeks gives way to a cold sweat. He... knew? Slowly, she looks up. Their eyes meet, and the subsequent silence is deafening. After a few moments, Evan looks away, sighing.)

Evan: I've known for quite some time. And I'm sorry, but... I can't.

(Oh.)

(Satsuki can only stare, utterly dumbfounded. But it begins to make sense; of course he knew. Of course he'd notice. How did she ever think she could hide anything from him? A different, shameful embarrassment begins to overtake her. Her cheeks heat up again, and tears begin to pool in her eyes. Evan looks back at her somewhat sheepishly.)

Evan: ... I really am sorry. It's not that I don't enjoy your company... I do. But, ah... I suppose you could say I'm...

(He averts his gaze again, looking a little embarrassed, himself.)

Evan: ... Preoccupied?

(... There's someone else.)

(The tears flow freely from Satsuki's eyes, now. She tries to smile reassuringly, but only looks that much more miserable as she croaks out a response.)

Satsuki: N-No... D-Don't apologize. I mean, o-of course you wouldn't... You're so amazing, and I... I'm just...

(A sob cuts her off, and she turns around, back facing him. She mumbles a broken "Sorry," before running ahead and out of sight. Evan reaches a hand out after her, but knows it's no use; there's no way he could catch up with her, and what would he even say? His arm drops to his side, and he sighs once more, turning his gaze to the sky.)

Evan: ... Kai is going to kill me...

She's somewhat sporty and quite strong, so scenarios that require strength are OK! She likes soccer and taekwondo, in particular. (She doesn't really have visible muscles, though, to be clear. She likes sweets & is a bit squishy.)

Evan is quite physically weak, so generally shouldn't be depicted successfully doing feats of strength or endurance.

E: Ugh...!!

(Evan is on the ground. In a rage, Kai punched him. Satsuki rushes to stand in between them, facing her brother.)

K: ... Why are you protecting him?! Are you that blinded by your infatuation?

S: You're the one who's blinded!!

K: ... !!

S: You know him best... You know him better than I do! You know he's not a bad person! He's done some bad things, sure, but... as his best friend, shouldn't you try to understand?

K: ... I'm not his best friend.

S: Bullshit! You only hate him so much because you cared... You still do! When will you get over your stupid grudge?

K: ... It's not that simple...

S: Why isn't it? I think you're complicating things all on your own! You love doing that... Making decisions all on your own, acting like nobody else could possibly understand... You're so...

(Satsuki begins to tear up.)

S: You're so selfish!!

E: ... He isn't.

S & K: !!

E: ... He's the kindest person I've ever met. ... Well, apart from you, Satsuki.

there was this thing going around a couple weeks ago that was like "if my characters were in a dating sim who would you choose to romance?" and well. it made me want to write up what their routes would be like hehe. the dating sim enjoyer has logged on‼️‼️

satsuki: a very personal & emotional route, character-focused, you learn a lot about her but not much in the way of overarching story just yet; but if you go back to replay it after the other two, you realize the foreshadowing was crazy.

evan: the "doomed" route. there isn't really a good ending, and whether he actually develops feelings for the player or not is up for debate. has some unsavoury elements & is probably the most controversial.

kai: the "true" route, the most plot-heavy. everything is revealed. catharsis, will likely tear your heart out. might have a bit of a bittersweet ending.

- cathartic seeing anthy have as much agency as she did at the end
- breathtaking visuals
- i definitely enjoyed it and its subtleties more cause i've seen the anime
- poor nanami lol
- a little disappointed that some of my favourite parts of the anime didn't make the cut, but i think i was still able to appreciate it for what it was
