just felt like writing a few blurbs on certain personality facets for the trio. for funsies. hehe. going back to sleep now 😴

Satsuki's emotional intelligence is quite high--she has a knack for gleaning implicit meaning from others' words and behaviours, though she struggles to handle this information with as much elegance as she would like. Still, despite her anxieties and resulting social clumsiness, her insight is often spot-on; her intuition rarely leads her astray, and her skill in seeing through to the truth of things is second to none. She often frustrates at the lack of honesty from those closest to her, interpreting it as a lack of trust, further feeding into her persistent self-doubt.

In an effort to hide his loneliness, Evan adopted a mask of arrogance at a young age--one that, now, he struggles to separate from his true nature. Those who pay attention, however, will see his real personality shine through in the moments when it counts. He may hold a high opinion of himself, but he doesn't put down others; in fact, mistreatment in this vein greatly irritates him, and he will go out of his way to defend the honour of those targeted with derision, especially in the case of those he cares about.

Kai chases control and destruction in equal measure, desperately seeking release, in any form he can find, from an incessant inner turmoil. He often feels overly responsible for those around him, while simultaneously struggling to believe he's capable, or deserving, of having any power at all. He operates largely based on deep-seated guilt and fear, leading him to make rash decisions that alleviate these feelings in the short-term, but do little to improve his overall wellbeing--something that he has difficulty caring much about.

another little RR excerpt... sharing the fact about satsuki's breakdown made me want to write a short exchange about it. this would take place not long after it happened... (satsuki would be about 17 here, kai, about 20) 🥹🩷🩶

(Kai knocks on the door to Satsuki's bedroom. After a few seconds of no answer, he cracks the door open. He finds her hugging her knees on her bed, in the corner furthest away from the door.)

Kai: "... Hey..."

Satsuki: "..."

Kai: "... I made dinner."

Satsuki: "..."

Kai: "... Are you gonna come out?"

Satsuki: "..."

Kai: "... I'll make a plate for you--"

Satsuki: "If I don't leave, it's not real..."

Kai: "?"

Satsuki: "... If I stay in my room, nothing is real... None of this is real..."

(Kai wears a pained, worried expression on his face.)

Kai: "... Satsuki..."

(Satsuki buries her face further into her knees, completely hiding it.)

Satsuki: "... It's not real... It's not real..."

(Kai slowly makes his way over to her bed and sits adjacent to her. He reaches his hand out towards her shoulder, but hesitates, letting it hang in the air between them, before dropping it back to his side in resignation.)

Kai: "... Come on, you need to eat something..."

Satsuki: "Kai..."

(Satsuki raises her head up. Tears are silently streaming down her face.)

Satsuki: "... Why does this always happen to us? Why us, Kai...?"

(Kai finds the backs of his own eyes prickling, but holds it in. For her sake. He lets out a wry snort and looks away from her.)

Kai: "... Dunno. Feels like we're cursed, doesn't it? Our whole family."

(Satsuki doesn't respond, staring blankly at her bedsheets. Looking back at her, Kai forces a smile on his face--a complete betrayal of what's inside of him, as usual--and raises his hand once again, to gently ruffle her hair.)

Kai: "... I'll bring your dinner in here."

(Satsuki sniffles.)

Satsuki: "... Okay... Thanks..."
