I argue that we do have options for how to meet Russian aggressive attacks, and until we actually do something, regardless of any political statements about attacks being "unacceptable", we are in fact accepting them. By the way, here's a picture of Reagan being briefed by on El Dorado Canyon.

Far be it from me to say that not cooperating with authorities always means you did the crime, but one could imagine the time to present the "comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence" was during the investigation they instead made "concentrated efforts to stop and frustrate" ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

Back from Stockholm, where the firearm geeks might find it interesting to note that the guards at the palace were using some AK M4A (Swedish Colt M4A1, brought in as a stop-gap rifle) alongside the AK 5 (FN FNC).

As Denmark sends conscripts abroad, it’s time to repost my comment on the Finnish force structure which the politicians doesn’t seem to want to talk about. But, hey, it’s not like there are some worrying signs the resolve of our alliance might be about to be tested? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean, when you put it like that, Disney doesn't seem as bad after all...

You’re now basically just spinning a story out of a few details in a report that dealt with it which reported the situation 12 months ago with the words ”disabling *some* of the combat capabilities that had already been fielded on the TR-2 aircraft”. The Aviationist has a good and balanced write up.

I'm going to guess it is this beauty that is pulling our first F-35s home. Fun fact, the 'T' in KC-135T indicates that is one of the KC-135 that were modified back in the time to be able to supply fuel to the SR-71 Blackbird. The tanker is by now 60+ years old, a true veteran.

While this is without doubt a good and sensible idea, there's just no denying that the MFG Tornados in their grey-white camo roaring low over the waves of the Baltic Sea was a much *cooler* way of providing that capability 😎

The rifles were high-pressure piston-systems with shorter barrels compared to Ag m/42, and the major difference was that fm/56 had the original 10-round magazine, while the fm/57 had a 20-round one. Notable that they both were chambered in 6.5x55 Swedish.

A Finnish Do-228 passing above strange vessel activity in the Gulf of Finland - safe to say it is one of the two maritime patrol aircraft the Border Guard operates. FBG images.

Mercator’s superiority is the one anthill I’ll make my stand upon - what is the true meaning of a map if it doesn’t allow for accurate navigation? Otherwise it’s just a geography infographic 😎

Ah, it cut the headings. Here they are:

That's not a question, but a statement based on a projection which I have not seen you make a reasonable argument for. Why on earth would the support cost suddenly skyrocket? Because a lack of spares? Because you say so? The Congressional Budget Office seems to disagree: www.cbo.gov/publication/...

If you bothered reading the report and not just the headlines, a number of things stand out. To begin with, much of the lack of readiness right now is related to depot maintenance, spares availability, inadequate training, and so forth.

Fittingly, the F125 Baden-Württemberg-class used for the test is the poster child of the earlier period when the German Navy wasn't expected to fight a war as much as it was meant to provide a customer for German industry and do occasional international interventions, largely lacking heavy weapons.

First upgraded STRV 122 has arrived in Sweden, now under the STRV 123A-designation. It will be joined by the other 109 examples, as all remaining STRV 122 in Swedish service will have been upgraded to what is roughly a Leopard 2A7+/2A8-standard by 2031. Pictures by Markstridsskolan

However, it does run somewhat contrary to this earlier passage, which caused me to question whether the idea really was to sit and watch Russian tanks roll into the Suwałki-gap and then we'd sit down to think about a response...

This is without doubt the best page of the study. Nailing down several important points, including how to adapt communications to today's society in general and to our role as a NATO member, as well as asking whether simply hoping to survive is enough of a national goal.

When the F Mk.24 entered service it was powered by a 1,700 kW Griffon via a 5-bladed propeller, sending a fully loaded 4,500 kg machine through the air at 730 km/h. Armament also increased from eight .303 machine guns to four 20 mm Hispanos and 500 kg of bombs. Seafire FR Mk.47 was even more radical

Rumour at DALO Industry Days was we might see talked about upgrade to Finnish air mobility sooner rather than later, and that C-390 might be a strong contender following a string of recent successes in Europe (including Sweden). A Finnish C-390 order for a few aircraft incoming?

Both me and @hanstino.bsky.social will be at DALO Industry Days next week. We'll not have a stand, but do not hesitate to contact us if you are interested in setting up a meeting (or then you can just trust your luck and say 'Hi' if you see us walking by 😉).

If the French thought the delays and dragged out political and industrial issues that came with Franco-German cooperation were exhausting, this just might be the move to ensure European cooperation becomes fashionable once more 😅 Pictures obviously completely unrelated 😁

Russian Tu-142 flew “unnecessarily close” to HMS Prince of Wales in Norwegian Sea on 2 July and dropped “large number” of sonar buoys, MoD calling it "unsafe and unprofessional”. Two F-35 scrambled to intercept, notable the one on deck in first image has live missiles. h/t @deborahaynes.bsky.social

RBS 70NG to Finland! Great news, a potent system that has served us and many others well, and now coming in an upgraded version also to our neck of the woods. The original missile can be admired at Swedish Army Museum in Stockholm, which is well worth a visit.

There seems to be a debate about whether the prime days of CR7 are over, and how we should all just accept that time comes for us all and what once was a prime attacking weapon nowadays lack the punch needed to stay relevant. Oh, sorry, that was a footballer, not the Canadian rocket!

Found this wonderful image when searching for something else: the Swedish postal service's Driftvärn (the part of the Swedish Home Guard set up to ensure continued business as usual for authorities) practicing blowing up railway lines in the qualifications to the National Home Guard Competition.

Som ps. kan vi också notera tre J 6B Jaktfalken II till Finland 1939, men de donerades så är ju inte "riktig" exportaffär även om typen gjorde god tjänst som skolflygplan fram till 1945.

Geopolitics in practice during this morning’s trip, as the train is one of the Alstom Sm6 that were co-owned by VR and RŽD for the Allegro service between Helsinki and St Petersburg, but since the line was put on ice in 2022 they now run domestically as Pendolino Plus.

I would imagine them inherently having better ice capability than the Visby-class on behalf of their size and steel hulls, but in any case this ice coverage map of a somewhat typical winter is quite informative regarding the difference in Finnish and Swedish requirements.

The thing that worries me about Trump's rant about NATO being a paper tiger (and Putin also thinking so) is that we have historical precedents for people not believing in the alliances of their adversaries, and in one case it ended up causing a four year-long world war with perhaps 20 million dead.
