This line is a lot more somber and practical with the full quote. One thing that has struck me on previous reads is how many of the characters feel like they're on the edge of failure for most of the story, or feel they have already failed, but keep pushing forward and doing their best anyway.

"I wish it need not have happened in my time,' said Frodo.
'So do I,' said Gandalf, 'and so do all who live to see such
times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us. And already, Frodo, our time is beginning to look black. Went to Dinosaur Land in Front Royal today, it's an old 60s roadside attraction with giant dinosaur sculptures. it's so fun, 100% worth it, the gift shop is fantastic... and they have not one but TWO of my favorite dino, Parasaurolophus!!! excellent curation 👏👏👏

went to see the Powerglove concert Friday! the vibes were excellent, it was my first time seeing them and I'm glad I dragged my early 30s self out late. also I think every rock concert should be attended only by socially awkward nerds, it was such a good crowd

If folks are in LA and affected by smoke from the wildfires, they can filter their indoor air by making a Corsi Rosenthal box out of HVAC filter(s) and a box fan. 4 filters = more airflow and more clean air, but 1 filter on the back of the fan will still help. cleanaircrew.org/box-fan-filt...

Instructions for building a Corsi Rosenthal box. Make a cube out of 4 HVAC air filters and a box fan on top with the fan front up, and a piece of square cardboard on the bottom. Duct tape tightly at all edges to seal. For best airflow, cut a square piece of cardboard with round hole the size of the fan blades and tape to the front of the fan.

First recipe from the Redwall cookbook: Stones Inna Swamp aka parsley dumplings in vegetable stew. This was hearty and DELICIOUS and kid me is vindicated for thinking this food sounded amazing! The book is meant for parents to cook with their kids - seems like that would be really fun!
