Not too surprising when you consider that execs have been paying for managers for years that don’t actually understand how to do whatever it is they manage, but that are good at talking the talk confidently. AI is a much cheaper and quicker version of the same thing, all without needing vacation!

The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as any other New Yorker. And yet, for too long, we have been told to ask for less than that, and endure hatred and bigotry in the shadows. No more.

The “Debate Me Bro” Grift: How Trolls Weaponized The Marketplace Of Ideas
Among the attempts to create hagiographic eulogies of Charlie Kirk, I’ve seen more than a few people suggest that Kirk should be respected for being willing to talk to “those who disagree with him” as a sign that he was engaging in good faith. Perhaps the perfect example of this is Ezra Klein’s silly eulogy claiming that Kirk was “

Those ads just crashed the page for me 3 times before I could get 2 paragraphs into it, unfortunately. Even Reader mode on iOS didn’t help.

“Blocked”. Until they have any teeth, nothing a judge does really matters to this administration. As long as Congress keeps rubber stamping the confirmation of unqualified Trump sycophants and refusing to honor their sworn oaths to the Constitution, court rulings may as well be written with Crayons.

Ohhh this would actually be pretty easy to do by adjusting playbackRate. Just be sure to disable pitch correction first (on by default in most/all browsers that support it IIRC).

I've said it before, I'll say it again: pitch it as increasing SCOTUS to at least 100 Justices, with randomly selected pools of 9 to hear each case, such that no single Justice matters so much.

These examples were first try, and the only selection I did on the photos was choosing a couple that I took and didn't mind sharing (no personal stuff). Eerily accurate, especially the downtown skyline shot—100% accurate. And this is with GPT 4.1 Mini!
These are both real-world examples. Neither image had any metadata associated with it. Both captions are accurate.

Input image: Photograph of a classic muscle car on an urban street	Generated caption: Yellow 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible parked on a city street with a brick building and chain-link fence in the background.

Input image: Downtown Night View with freeway nearby showing slow shutter headlights
Generated caption: View of downtown Austin, Texas at night from the roof of a condo, showing light trails of vehicles on a busy highway near the Lady Bird Lake and Riverside Drive exits.

Spun up a quick tool to generate captions for photos using OpenAI GPT 4.1 Mini. The captions are automatically added into the image metadata (exif). Makes them more searchable on iOS and macOS. Cost: $1/2k images.

I was doing this previously, but it's harder to keep them in sync. I wound up making a mess…I had short-term branches and stashed code fragmented across multiple largely non-semantic clones and it was a pain to manage. Then I found git worktrees and it's been much easier to manage.
020
Corey Ward @coreyward.dev · 11/06/2025
This works much better than multiple checkouts because you have a single copy of the repo, avoiding all of the syncing between different copies of it, keeping all of your stashes together, etc.

Corey Ward @coreyward.dev · 11/06/2025
The way I've been doing it is to have my git repo in `_base` underneath my project name folder. Then each branch I want to work on simultaneously is in a folder of the same name adjacent to _branch. I can alter dependencies, run separate IDEs, or claude code in each folder/branch. Commits too!

Ergo the solution: visiting an old website that doesn't have HSTS (or one that I haven't visited in the last year), which allows the browser to finish the handshake and follow the redirect to the portal sign-in page.

I just fixed a wifi connection issue by going to geocities .com. 😂 I'm out at a brewery. My laptop connects to the wifi fine, but nothing loads. I curl -vv stackoverflow and it complains about a self-signed certificate. Shoe in for a captive portal, and HSTS prevents the redirect from working.

Wild. Meta is constantly demonstrating how little regard they have for privacy, their users, and the law. Also disappointing that Android lets any app listen to an arbitrary port exposed to the internet in the background with zero notification to end users.

I could see this being useful when authoring UI components that are consumed by others and need to adapt to the content. E.g., a fancy dropdown that might need to hold space for each item if any one of them has some optional element (checkbox, image, etc).

Same here. It's a useful tool if you think of it as a normal tool instead of as a magic wand. They're definitely not software-engineer replacements, but they're good enough at writing code in many contexts that they save me time on stuff I don't want to spend time on.

1 kwh just isn't all that much energy. The wholesale rate averages about $0.03/kwh, and providers generate a profit on that. The rest of what you pay is for transmission and maintenance, not the energy. Now do bitcoin and air conditioning.

Doesn't actually matter if you look closely at the chart. Ignore the total capacity here for a minute and consider instead the delta between the capacity and the actual usage. For most of this chart, the usage is very near the capacity. Recently, not nearly as much.

Maybe, but this announcement was all about selling the product of hype. It’s all about making the value and apparent inevitableness of OpenAI greater. They spend $6B and see their valuation go up by $30B. It’s a great way of shutting down competition by scaring away VCs, too.

Corey Ward @coreyward.dev · 22/05/2025
Hype. The product is hype. The only thing they’re both mutually aligned on. Well, that and insisting they’re normal-ish people when they’re both clearly wildly off kilter as a result of both their money and celebrity.

As with cooking, the real thing is better, but for many reasons, an artificial imitation of the real thing dramatically faster, cheaper, or easier winds up preferred. Microwave popcorn, dried spices, and canned tomato paste all have their place.

On the flip side, the forks have gained traction quickly by being compatible with VSCode, but that changes if they're not able to apply patches quickly and reliably. Their roadmap is subject to the direction of VSCode if they stay in sync, and they lose portability if they opt out.
000
Corey Ward @coreyward.dev · 13/05/2025
The most recent stable release of VSCode (1.100) is really solid. Copilot chat works better with effectively every model (e.g., Gemini 2.5 Pro works properly, unlike with the competition)—slower sometimes, but with more usable outputs. Tab completion isn't as robust, but UI is better (more explicit)
