Negative global-scale association between genetic diversity and speciation rates in mammals - Nature Communications
Genetic diversity and speciation rate support adaptability and species richness patterns, respectively. Here, the authors find a negative association between mitochondrial genetic diversity and specia...

Happy to share our new paper out in ME! We generated a chromosome-level genome for the waterbuck and WGS historical museum collections, allowing us to explore population structure and gene flow at a finer-scale, and polymorphic chromosome (Rb) fusions. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

Chromosome‐Level Genomics and Historical Museum Collections Reveal New Insights Into the Population Structure and Chromosome Evolution of Waterbuck
Advances in sequencing and chromosome-scale assembly have brought non-model animals into focus, deepening our understanding of genome and chromosome evolution. Here, we present the waterbuck (Kobus e...

Lophophorates get way too little publicity... Latest issue is out! www.cell.com/issue/S0960-...
On the cover: A phoronid (Phoronis australis) extending its crown-like feeding organ, the lophophore, from its tube on the seabed. These sedentary marine invertebrates belong to the spiralian branch of bilaterian animals. For over a century, their closest relatives have been debated, with competing hypotheses linking them to either brachiopods or bryozoans. In this issue, Lewin et al. present a chromosome-level genome of P. australis and reveal that it shares seven derived chromosome fusions with bryozoans. This provides rare, sequence-independent evidence supporting bryozoans as the closest relatives of phoronids and offers new insights into the evolution of genome structure and animal body plans. We have another publication out! 🎉🎉🎉 “Hybrids along a natural–anthropogenic gradient: improving policy and management across all levels of biodiversity.” We explore how to deal with hybrids in conservation — scientifically and practically. A thread 🧵 conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Hybrids Along a Natural‐Anthropogenic Gradient: Improving Policy and Management Across All Levels of Biodiversity
Hybridization has long been a central topic in evolution and conservation. Recent developments in genomics have increased the ability to detect hybridization, defined here as breeding between species....
