Do you know the door breach sequences in Call of Duty? Where you place a breaching charge on a door, it explodes, and then you shoot every bad guy in a room while the time is slowed down? [1/10]
A screenshot from Tactical Breach Wizards showing two armed wizards chatting as they are about to breach a door. "what does it pay?" "Nothing. I'm broke." "That's actually very competitive with what I'm earning right now".

I finished the game, got all the collectibles and the true ending in about 4.5 hours. I would recommend this if you're looking for something warm, relaxed and family-friendly. [6/6]

The writing carries this game, and it helps the few frustrations I had with it to fade into the background (unless you want to get all the achievements). I also found the game's music loops a bit grating, but that's neither here nor there. [5/6]
Another screenshot from Later Alligator showing a massive, triangular-shaped alligator named Tall Jared sitting at a dimly lit bar with a martini, delivering the line: "Honestly, I'm not even the tallest Jared that I personally know."

The minigames themselves are a mixed bag, they're sometimes funny, mostly mediocre, and there's amazingly terrible pinball that demonstrates everything I dislike about pinball. However, they are also used to develop the characters they are attached to. [3/6]
A screenshot from Later Alligator showing an elderly reptile named Papouli wearing sunglasses and relaxing in a lawn chair next to an outdoor market stand, accompanied by a dialogue bubble: "You have to speak up, I'm hard of hearing due to a condition where I stop listening mid-sentence and think about the war"

Overall, I liked this game a lot and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to be immersed in untamed wilderness for a while. It took me about 12 hours to finish it. [8/9]

This can get frustrating, so make sure to adjust the difficulty slider in the options menu if it's a problem. You should also avoid this game if you hate insects and especially spiders, since man-sized crawlies are most of your opposition. [7/9]

There is also combat. For the most part it's there to provide friction to make exploration more interesting, but unfortunately it also has some boss fights that tend to degenerate into S+M1 in confined spaces. [6/9]

Furthermore, the game runs on the old folklore logic: the nature is uncaring and every level feels carved into a landscape rather than being designed for optimal gameplay experience, and the story resembles a dark tale from an isolated community where you have to deal with malicious [4/9]

Mechanically, this is an FPS with early 2000s-level graphics and metroidvania-like level progression. In practice, this is one of the most atmospheric games I've played recently. [2/9]

The computer terminals can be chained in a row, and later you learn how to change how the machines are connected in order to unlock more demanding locks. Everything in the game is gated by knowledge, you don't unlock any abilities that let you do things you couldn't at the start. [4/8]

The game keeps changing the level gimmicks and environments, so it never grows stale either. It has straightforward GB-era sensibilities, and I would recommend it as a straight platformer if you like the genre. [4/9]
A Game Boy Color style pixel-art screenshot from Curse Crackers showing the protagonist, Belle, with her purple companion Chime, talking to Fione in a grassy camping area, with a dialogue box at the bottom where Belle says: "YES FIONE. I'VE TOUCHED GRASS. MANY TIMES."

It took me ~12 hours to 100% it, though you can probably get through to the credits in about 8. I had fun, would recommend if you are looking for something vaguely Mario-shaped to unwind to. --- [5/5]

It's an easy to learn, hard to master kind of game, as its controls really are just steering and spindash, with difficulty coming from accurately landing your jumps on increasingly precarious ledges. [3/5]

Its art style consists entirely of stock images and videos, and the writing is fun and lighthearted. If you are looking for a pleasant way to erase ~2 hours, SCPTV (no relation to the SCP foundation) is worth getting on a discount. [2/2]

I recommend both of them if you are looking for something slower and atmospheric you can lose yourself in, and both games are very screenshotable. [6/6]

Like their inspirations, there isn't much of a plot in either of the games (though the second ones have background lore), they are instead melancholy mood pieces involving searching for something in a big uncaring world. [5/6]

If you ever run into a difficulty spike, the game gives you the option of just shooting it in the face and never judges you for it. This game took me 20 hours to finish and I would recommend it if you want to try to get into soulsborne games, or if you like exploring underwater. [7/7]

You can reduce the difficulty in the options menu with all the expected settings (parry difficulty, your and enemies' health, resource loss etc), and it can also give you a gun. Just a normal, human-size firearm for a tiny crab that kills everything in 1 hit. [6/7]

The rest of the game is uneven: progression is sometimes frustrating because of first-person platforming, the narrative is absent (though it does try for something abstract), and there really is little to hook you other than the megastructure. [5/6]

A screenshot fro Disco Elysium, with one of the protagonists internal dialogue visible on the right: "YOU Failure? RHETORIC - Yes! Abject failure. Total, irreversible defeat on all fronts! Absolutely vanquished, beaten, curb-stomped and pissed on -- until *you* came along! *You* will reverse the fortune of the workers of the world. You alone, against every living thing, against every human alive: eight hundred trillion reál in the hands of an *impossibly* well organized ruling class; towering city blocks of bank-men who have the ears of prime ministers; million-headed armies of nations and the love of your own mother! There are carnivorous plants that mimic a climbable pole, there are living tendrils that look for carryable objects that they then steal and hoard. Everything is driven by a procedural animation system that makes all the movements seem uncannily smooth and organic, it's very impressive. [5/11]

You can also see where the guards are going to move on the next turn, but only if you can directly see them or have them tagged with the said spirit, which makes sure that you have to do some degree of improvisation. It's a smart design that reinforces the theme very well, I like it a lot. [4/6]
The level selection screen in Spirited Thief, designed to look like the shelves of a vault or display cabinet. The music is noticeably short and loopy, but I found it unobtrusive enough. The writing is fine, it's not particularly good or bad, other than some millennial lines in the player's dialogue. [6/7]

I also thought that the game's author likes interior design, I found the game's spaces interesting to consider as a construction. You should get this game if you like surrealism and exploration, I don't think that it has much going for it otherwise. [3/3]

It's the only game I know that has both an arachnophobia and arachnophilia settings in the options menu. It also plays with Lovecraftian tropes in a fun way, featuring all the usual cliches, as well as (extensive) time paradoxes and teeth nightmares. [3/5]
