Community energy allows local people to produce, consume and own energy where they live, together. It is incredibly positive to see community energy continue to feature so prominently in the delivery of the Clean Power Mission.

This week our Chief Executive, Emma Bridge, attended a reception at No. 10 Downing Street to highlight the contribution of co-operatives and mutuals to UK growth and prosperity. #coops #communityenergy

100%. Trump getting elected didn't change the physics of the planet's atmosphere, nor the UK's geography of heavily depleted north sea oil and gas reserves and an abundance of renewable energy potential. Delivering climate action that benefits us all is how the UK will prosper.

Fun being invited on BBC Radio 5 Live this evening to discuss the news that Govt are considering grants/cheap loans to enable more people to install solar. It's welcome as a move to democratise energy; I'd be keen to see it part of a wider policy to involve insulation /heat decarbonisation though.

Love this image of the Bro Dyfi Community Renewables site. This was the first community owned wind turbine in the UK, and they've now added 300kW of Solar PV to the site. Every town and village in the country should replicate this combo.
A wind turbine stand next several rows of ground mounted solar panels, on a green grassy hilltop in Wales with hilly peaks in the background and a clear blue sky.

Today the Company will depart. Bilbo gives Frodo his sword Sting and—secretly—his magnificent Dwarvish mail-coat of pure mithril. The old hobbit sings softly. ‘I sit beside the fire and think of how the world will be when winter comes without a spring that I shall ever see…’

Incredible analysis of where the profits from the global fossil fuel crisis flowed to. If we repeat the same ownership pattern with renewables then the outcome will be the same. This is why community energy is so important!

Might as well come out with it here on the samizdat site. I have a 500-ish page book on the carbon cycle over all of Earth and human history coming out next year. The cover looks like this. Will have more to say about it once I finally wrap it up soon and the publisher takes the bounty off my head.

I'm driving on sunshine! ☀️🚗 But what's best, biodiesel or electricity? Fuel from 1 hectare of oilseed crop = <18,000 miles of driving. BUT Electricity from 1 ha of solar PV = 2 million miles in an electric car! ☀️⚡🚗 !🤯 The solar/EV electric combo is incredible! (And 1 wind turbine = 40 million!)

From my point of view things haven't changed much. In England we still have to be going all out to build community owned renewable energy like solar and wind, and to get everyone aware that they need to be choosing a heat pump for their next central heating system. Stay focused and lead by example.

Some believe it is only Great Power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. It is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep that darkness at bay. Simple of acts of kindness and love.
